My businesses are not going anywhere, and I'm on the street. I feel like giving up at times.

I'm not above flipping burgers (U.S. Army Veteran), but In And Out won't hire me. Same with home depot, target, sprouts, auto zone, etc.

Yet, there are rarely any jobs, in my field (mechanical design).

I have one client for my Mechanical Design business, but there is hardly any work for me.

Anyone have any suggestions to put this catch-22 situation behind me.

I'm broke, and I've lost all my vehicles, so I am walking/taking the bus. I'm living on food stamps/ebt.

Regards,

Write down and commit to the following--each day--nothing else:
  • Phone ten companies to schedule an interview;
  • Fax/e-mail your resume to ten companies; and
  • Work on one item to further your mechanical design business, whether pitching a new client, pitching an investor, working on a new concept, setting up shop, researching, studying, etc.
Begin here. As you build momentum, you can augment this list accordingly. This TO-DO is your new boss. IF you commit 100% to this list, you have given yourself the gift of fully releasing ALL fvcks about your grievances.

I acknowledge these are easier said than done...

With all your might, with all that you are, as best as you possibly can:

  • Stay focused on the positive of what you have to offer and all that is possible.
  • Focus on continually feeding a positive inertia. Take action, as much as possible, on some level, every single day, to support a positive future.
  • Stay open for greater answers to present themselves.
  • Take action when they do.
  • Everyday, as often as possible, find things to be grateful for, no matter how small, or imaginative you need to be. When one is in gratitude, in my experience, it seems to open the door faster than anything, to experiencing even greater abundance.
  • Be kind to yourself. Speak to yourself inside, in supportive ways that root you on.
  • Focus on your skills and positive attributes and how they can, and will be of service to others.
  • Every so often, sincerely ask the question, inside yourself or even to others, "What else is possible?" Don't try to answer it yourself. Watch throughout each day for what comes forward.
  • Consider that there is a purposefulness to this chapter of your journey. While it may not be clear to you now, consider that it is moulding you and your character, for even greater things ahead.
  • Hang in there. Don't let this time in your life/experience define you. Remind yourself, This too shall pass.

Thank you for your effort. But, your strategy would work great for an ideal situation. However, I live in the real world. If I was in sales, it would work. Everyone needs salespeople. Not all companies have a need for a mechanical designer, and most of manufacturing has moved out of state due to taxes an other stupid California laws. I'm stuck with scraps for now, until things change or my other business takes off.

Thanks, I appreciate it!

Music and studies, are my main focus right now, as it's all I can do.

Yes, this is only a temporary situation.

If no demand for your employment due to regulations; then, self-employment in the same line in the same location isn't prudent either.

Relocate--or--seek a similar line of or alternate work that has greater demand and supportive regulations. There is no virtue in fighting for a dream in an uncompromising environment. Be malleable.

Looks like I'm moving to China then! LOL!!!

Seriously, it's no dream, it's what I do. The rug was pulled out from under me.

The problem is... we, mostly, don't make stuff here in the US anymore... It's mostly done overseas. We're a service based economy, and my services are not in demand. Full Stop.

Most things have already been made, and if things need to be changed, it usually happens in China.

One other option is 3d design for video games... I'll look into it.

Thanks!

Remind yourself, as often as needed, that others have found their way out of homelessness, and so can you!

I offer the story linked below, not as a how-to, but as inspiration in finding your own way.

'How One Woman Went from Homeless to Millionaire In Less Than Two Years

Part 1 of 2

Hey, happens to all of us. Federal and state regulations have killed two or three businesses for me, as well as a 15-unit building (yes, real-estate also)! So I understand fully.

When you find yourself in an uncompromising business or environment due to demand or regulations (and have reasonably exhausted your efforts), get out! If 3d video game design is within your training, then begin there, but don't stop there! What else can you offer where there is great demand and supportive regulations in your location?

Thanks,

I've started a musicians support group, and I'm working on getting my music licensed for TV, film, and video games.

So far, I've 2 rejections (no reason given). But, I'm still on the look out for more licensing companies to send my music to.

Every job opportunity I've had in the last 10 years was a result of someone at the company recommending me. You talk about businesses you have so not sure if you're looking for a 9-5 job or what. I don't doubt you cant get a job at in-n out. I have a college degree in business, been working at the same company for 10 years, have good results, got the idea to make extra income delivering pizzas (this was like 4 years ago). I filled out an app online for Papa Johns. They auto-rejected me. That's when I took some of my savings and started my own side-job business. It's ridiculous. All I can say is try networking like crazy. LinkedIn, etc., whatever you can.

Never try to read a woman's mind. It is a scary place. Ignore her confusing signals and mixed messages. Assume she is interested in you and act accordingly.

Schneider will help you get a CDL and drivers are always high in demand(especially guys with a couple years experience). Otherwise go to China ASAP, there are no shortage of jobs for native speakers over there. If I wanted to, I could work there for the rest of my life and never go without really well paid work for more than a day.

Its the difference between $10/HR flipping burgers in Canada with a full safety net or $50/HR playing games in China with nothing. You've got to be financially responsible for yourself, not show up to work drunk, high or late and you've got maximum employment forever. At one point I was working 3 jobs and kept getting offered overflow work... I think I was doing 16 hour days. You've just got to make the jump.

Talk to me when you've finished sending your resume out to all those. My brother and my friend are also 'out of work' and just can't seem to find anything despite applying for one or two new jobs per month, lol. If you want to get a job, be prepared to go anywhere, do anything and send out thousands of resumes across the globe.

I'm broke, and I've lost all my vehicles, so I am walking/taking the bus. I'm living on food stamps/ebt.

Regards,
- When you get back on your feet, understand the importance of living BELOW your means and having a very large cushion period. The cushion period is designed so that if income stops coming in, how long do you have to live on your savings/emergency resources before you are down to zero? Try to have this planned out and always keep a 5 year cushion period. This might mean having to move to a lower cost of living area, delay having kids, etc.

- If you can PM me your resume and experience, I can line out a bunch of different career paths you can take.

- From there, you would begin the massive job networking aspect all across the US and Globally, in terms of the targeted types of positions you are looking for. You would look for openings on all major job boards and you would get a list of every single company you would work for, and contact them directly.

- On the side, it might be possible to keep your business running as well.

But having a large cushion period is important, you mentioned having multiple cars.....you only should have one car.
