Hi guys,

As mature men, I would relaly appreciate your assistance. As we we all know, our lives affect how we are with women and OUR lives are the priority so....

I am working on a Project as a contractor. My contract is 'as needed' with one week notice.

My boss spoke to me yesterday saying that the Contractors Contracts will not be renewed when they expire as their roles (including mine) are completed and asked when mine was expiring. Most have a time stipulated but mine is quite open ended.

I am concerned for my job security. He has told me he is looking for other things for me and does not want to lose such a great employee but recommended to look around on the Company website for other positions and that he would be a referee. He said he is trying to find something for himself also.

I have my job agency looking for work for me as well and trying to find out when my completion date is. No one is telling me as they don't know themselves.

I have sent out my CV to about 5 other companies. I am 28, have a computer science and a law degree, about 5 years experience in both Oil and Gas plus the Mining industry in Australia.

I planned to work abroad in a couple of years for the experience but wanted to build my experience here first as I have heard overseas work can be quite intense and I want to perform. Plus my lifestyle here is quite good.

Same day I found out a tenant is leaving my apartment so I will lose rental income. Sheesh. yes, I have planned for this but just not at the same time. I will get through it but will have to rebuild my contingency fund afterwards I bet :)

So any similar stories/suggestions appreciated. A MASSIVE shock as last week they were talking about a promotion and now this.

At least your boss gave you the heads up!

Use this oppurtunity to try something new.. I met a guy last week. We were talking about careers and this part of the conversation we had:

Him: I love the unions..

Me: Why do you say that?

Him: I worked in a shop in my hometown as an engineer. Made good money, had a house and was destined to live there for life. They became unionized, 2 weeks later the shop closed, I was out of a job. BUT... That caused me to look for, and get, a better job where I travel. I now live in a different city, where I met my wife, make more money, and have a better job! Like I said, the union was the best thing that happened to me!

Your attitude towards the situation will determine the outcome..

The job market for lawyers is definitely a joke unless you're in the top 10% of your class.
