I feel like smoking weed in moderation is really harmless but I think there can be some serious problems w/ every day smokers.

Recently I have noticed myself being colder towards some loved ones / being a little more depressed. I've smoked everyday(almost) for quite a while now but recently I've been doing it a lot more it seems, even while at work.

Today after realizing that I think this could be what's effecting my general motivation / emotions I decided I'm going to cut back at least to start. Not smoke while at work or before it most importantly.

Save it for a after work type thing. But I'm almost thinking I want to quit all together. It would be tough for me though. All my friends / girlfriend smoke. I have strong will power so I could if I really decided it's what I wanted to do.

That's why I decided to cut back first to see if I started feeling better.

[Edit]: I would REALLY like to hear stories from past daily smokers who quit. Or tried to quit. Or know someone who did etc.

It helped me.. but I will have to stop (and have stopped as of yesterday) for at least 2 weeks to clear my head

It definitely realigns neurons for me.. I started thinking differently, opened up emotionally, and found who I truly am.

Not I have to build upon that base, go achieve, do great things, but weed won't help with that.

I will smoke it there and here, may be once a month I have a day where I'll do it for perspective, but like you, I am sure:

- thoughts ALWAYS running around in your head
- putting on lbs from munchies
- throat/lungs damage
- worst of all: getting in a habit of smoking and doing everyday things..

for me weed is a tool, when it becomes a commodity for my life I quit and see how integral that part is in my life..

I am not going to smoke for 2 weeks, join me here and let's do it.

and i've smoked every day and have everyone around me smoking as well.. no matter me and you can do it if you have the balls to do this.

In two weeks see what changes, you can always go back if you wish.

I used to be a major pothead.

I'm talking about being high 24-7... get up in the morning and smoke a bowl, smoke before going to class, and smoke before you come home, and after the gym, etc. etc. I even wrote a final in ion channel pharmacology/electrophysiology completely baked outta my mind, and actually did pretty well! I think I may have adult ADHD, so weed just really helped to calm me down.

Weed was a big part of my lifestyle back when I was single, as were other drugs. However, as someone who's training to be a healthcare professional with two university degrees I know better... It wasn't hard to quit... the biggest thing I found was to surround yourself with people that don't smoke.

I simply can't smoke weed like that anymore at this point in my life as it is simply incompatible with my lifestyle. I'm working around 60 hours a week in a critical care environment, and am training for a bodybuilding show next year. I find my mood is generally a lot better, I get more stuff done, I'm more motivated and my workouts are a lot better since I've stopped smoking. Conversely, I feel a lot more hyper, and don't sleep as well, but there's other supplements you can take like melatonin to help with sleep. I'll still smoke 1-2 times a year if its around, but definitely nothing close to what I used to do back in the day!

Overall, its a habit that I'm really glad I kicked. You just have to surround yourself with people who don't smoke and get into a career/lifestyle where you simply CAN'T smoke to achieve your goals.

Thanks for your replies. I think I"ll be on board with the 2 week challenge. I think I may of just noticed a increase becasue I started to smoke at work like I mentioned. This makes me wonder what I might notice if I quit all together.

I also think I have adult ADHD, and I think I heard the sleep trouble is a side effect but it seems like you've been off of it for a while.

I just noticed myself not really trying at work and not doing as much **** around the house as I should be doing and being more irritable.

I think I can do it being around my friends / girlfriend who smoke. It will just make it a lot more challenging.

Weed helped me discover things about myself that otherwise I would've never realized. Smoking daily though is not realistic. I mean sure if you have job that you fly through, that's fine, but when you work for yourself that's not helping you. Just like I wouldn't be drinking and working.

Weed is like wine, it must be smoked when relaxing.

I smoke pot. There was a stretch of time when I smoked a little too heavily, but cutting down was as easy as deciding to cut down. Everyone needs to take a break once in awhile and I have no problem with taking breaks of one to four months.

I would suggest you go longer than two weeks, for three reasons.

1) Insomnia is a side-effect of quitting from heavy usage and the insomnia lasts about two weeks (in my experience).
2) Tolerance levels reset if you abstain for about two months, give or take.
3) You need time to think.

I suggest you take a full break.

I just quit about 2 years ago on NYE. I just had a moment where I said "I done with this, its not that much fun". I've been a daily smoker for about 15 years. I still might have a toke on my birthday or new years, but I really just don't need it or want it. My roommate smokes every weekend and can't believe I just up and quit. It just doesn't hold any luster for me. Also I see how much more productive I am vs my roommate and that reinforces my resolve on not smoking. He never gets anything done and blames his ADD, but the fact that he's so baked he can't remember what he said five minutes ago might also have something to do with it.

How else are you supposed to enjoy the Comfortably Numb guitar solo? lol

Smoking is supposed to be a source of relaxation and a deviation from the norm. But if you smoke every day, it loses its luster and you then sink into the depressive effect of smoking too much. I've caught myself in that rut several times over the years, then I took a break.

The only cure for that is to quit for awhile. A couple weeks, months, whatever. It never fails, quit for awhile and the next time you get 'high on the horse' it is like the first time.

In college my roommates and frat buddies and neighbors and I were always toking, and I remember what it was like when I had to quit all of a sudden for a piss test. It was insomnia and feeling like crap, but I knew that quitting was the right thing to do, it shouldn't get like that. Had to diesel through it but such is life.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

Wow you must be a huge Pink FLoyd fan; I see you mention them in a lotta threads.

OP when I first started I used to get really depressed the next day, felt like $%#
. I would suggest really doing it in moderation, doing it properly so you don't **** up your lungs (too much), as in don't hold your breath afterwards for minutes on end or any stupid shit like that lol....

I've been on involuntary Probation for a while and haven't toked since probably last Thanksgiving...but man joining the gym has ignited that desire to get blazed!!!

sorry I derailed off topic lmao

95% of THC is absorbed within five seconds. Anything longer is more tar and crap in the lungs. Of course, there are also vaporizers who vaporize those health concerns by delivering purified THC. THC prevents lung cancer by killing off old cells and inhibiting the creation of new blood vessels necesssary for tumors.

Hmm, I always hold my breath 10-20 secs to get the most effect, thank you for setting this straight.

I still have major insomnia, also now I am falling asleep and waking up every few minutes until I finally fall asleep hours later, but that could be my sleep cycle?

Anyone have tips on falling asleep quicker - I tried yawning a lot and stretching like animals do before bed and it helps trick the body but only for a few mins.

Still no smoking and honestly I don't think I want to smoke anytime soon.. plus I think I have mild asthma from smoking(?) and living in a humid place

@Amazing, yeah I used to do that too. The effect you're feeling isn't a stronger high, it's a lack of oxygen coupled with tar building in your lungs; it gives a lightheaded feeling but it isn't the THC.

Also @Rogue, I have tried a Vape on two occasions. Both times were really strange lol--it's like taking a deep breath basically, I mean once or twice I could almost taste smoke and the THC itself, but most of the time I didn't feel anything. I've also head it gets you extremely high but I was worried about that so I didn't take too many hits. I didn't get too blazed afterwards; my biggest highs were from bong rips

And for the sleep thing, cooked turkey helps you become drowsy.

I've read studies saying that could be falso - like you had to eat 9lbs of turkey to have any effect on sleep

not to say stomach working through all that food isn't an effect - but you get that from anything solid

I hope tonight is different.. didn't know weed had withdrawls lol

I used to smoke almost almost all day everyday. I became lazy, tired all the time, irritable when I didn't smoke and a fatty. I stopped being sociable for a while and just would sit at home on my days off and get high, play ps3 and jam. Prolly an oz a week. I had to quit cold turkey for a bit (as I was smoking alot of cigs as well, which I'm still battling that disease).

After I quit I noticed I sleep better, eat better, do ALOT more, am more sociable. I've saved so much more money. Now I smoke to relax me maybe once every couple weeks or so. The weed hangovers were killing me. I had no motivation to get up in the morning, I was irritable and groggy for half the day. It was actually kinda miserable. I just enjoy the energy and motivation I've had.

I smoke so much that it takes over a week of quitting for me to get that feeling where everything feels real. Amazing let me know when you're down to do the two weeks thing.

Dude Im doing it right now, day 3 I think -- already having great effect

clear thinking
body losing fat
eating right - so no side effects from ingredients that hurt your body

It's interesting you say that you were in a haze, because I could have sworn I was as well, yet pot smokers tell me weed wears off in a few hours and you can't feel it after - yet more than one occasion I woke up the next day still feeling somewhat stoned.

I might actually kick alcohol as well - I went out to day and didn't have a drop - not only did I have a great time once I got into the party mode, I am sharper, wittier, but I don't blow myself out with coming on too strong or having to reduce my standards.

Who knows, may be eventually I won't be smoking drinking jerking off eating wrong foods

and see how the body responds

If you are not trying to quit for the sake of a pending drug test, both vaporizers and edibles like pot brownies will ease the jones. You're still getting high, but it's generally weaker and easier to eventually quit.

I've heard that serotonin deficiency causes insomnia. Serotonin is the same hormone that makes you feel good, so during the day, try laughing more (you can do that in home, by yourself, just laugh randomly when watching comedy, even if you don't really feel like laughing, it will start to get easier. I really dig this movie: Napoleon Dynamite.). Other things that I know of that can cause low serotonin are: masturbating too much. (I've repeated this next part over and over, so skip it if you will, it's in white.) Beware, I am not saying AT ALL that masturbating is unhealthy or bad. I think it is healthy, but if your body isn't healthy, you should stop it for a while. If you are healthy, don't masturbate too much. I've read that 2-3 times a week is the best frequency, but that changes for everyone, so KNOW your body! : )

Next, you could try doing Tai Chi, or yoga or something. I never tried yoga personally. While some people think it is boring\totally stupid, I wouldn't mind trying it, it seems like it could be some fun, too! And another point really important that I want to say is that STRESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS really can ruin your body! So try your best to not let stress get the best of you! People sometimes forget about that part... I think it's one of those things that it is easier to prevent then to fix! Next time, in the heat of the moment, in a verbal argument or something, just think... Is it really worth it? To waste your energy? Maybe, you should just go away, or ignore!

Laughing/feeling good can be extremely healthy for your body! But someone who laughs a lot can still be lacking in other things. Diet, for example, is also important, etc. If someone wants to add something to my post, pls do, that would be cool. Thanks for reading! :)

I use to smoke.

I quit because its a waste of my life. One of the best decisions ive made.

All my friends still smoke so if you really are a "strong willed person" then you wont use that as an excuse.
