CaptainJon, your email sounds too bland. Also, you don't have to write so much about yourself....your profile does that for you.

My first email to these girls is 2-3 sentences about something interesting i see on their profile. "I see you're pretty good at cooking Thai food. Gotta admit, I'm kinda jealous. Have you ever been to Thailand before?"

Either they reply or they don't, but I'm not investing a lot of time into writing them. Just something semi-interesting to get their attention, and show that you're not just writing "Sup sexy. Wanna chill sometime?" It's all gonna come down to whether or not she finds you attractive anyway....so no point in writing too much in the first message

thanks for the great tips so far...
yahoo personals i heard is great, but i havent been a paying member yet just created my profile recently. .
do yourself a favor.

don't waste money on yahoo personals.

I did for a short period.

conversed with a few and when it was time to set a date to meet up, they ALL were suddenly out of the country and wanted me to wire them money for whatever reason each one had.

LOTS of nigerian scams there folks.

you'll be more successful on match or okcupid (free)
