I searched for other topics, but none of them addressed the angle in my question. How much has internet dating changed in the last 4-5 years? This was the last time I tried it. At that time I found there were far more men than women, and it was extremely difficult to get the attention of those who interested me as they could afford to be extremely picky. Those I did go out with misrepresented themselves in their profiles either through physical dimensions (110-125 lbs my -ss, try 155), or personality by saying they were fun and outgoing when I couldn't drag words out of them.

Most of the women I've dated were through friends of friends, but that well is running dry. I'm 34, currently unemployed, looking to start my own business/franchise or join a small company if that doesn't work. If I do start my own business online dating my be the best option as I won't have much time for volunteer organizations or other groups. Now that internet dating has matured some do you notice a levelling of the playing field as far as male/female ratios, response rates, etc.? If you've been online dating for 4+ years please share your perspective on what's changed and what hasn't.

Are you writing a research paper? Why not just be concerned with what is working now?:cheer:

No, if I were writing a paper I would be upfront about that. The point is online dating was a complete waste of time, money, and energy the last time 4-5 yrs ago. I'm interested if others here have noticed changes in M/F ratios, honesty in profiles, etc. to determine whether it's worth my time and money.

You've forgotten to mention that one needs to know what they're doing to sarge online. One either needs a really good picture or an even better headline and profile. Oh yeah, good qualifying skills helps too.

These reviewers seem pretty unsatisfied. sosuave is the only place I've seen men talk about on-line dating in a positive light, and that should tell you something about the sosuave community. I think the online daters are mostly AFCs and fat chicks, but that is part of why Myspace works so well - it avoids the stigma of being a dating site.

Personally I think the only difference between now and 4-5 years ago is that back then, a pic wasn't necessary, and sometimes you could meet blind. Now, they expect a pic, and you better look good for you have nearly no chance. You can't convey much other than looks via online anyways, so, make of that what you will.

Thanks for your observations on what's changed in the past 4-5 years.

I don't think hot chicks pay for on-line dating. If they are on the Net, then they are using Myspace or facebook or sneaking contact info into an ad without paying. And yes, this assertion is based upon experience. On-line dating will vary between urban and rural areas. In a small town, many people legitimately do not want to put their picture on the Internet. The hottest girl I ever met off the Net was from an ad with no picture.

The most expensive dating site is e-harmony, and I find the women on there to be the most desperate. Maybe they are just desperate to stop paying e-harmony $30/month.

My ex-wife is 31 and fat, and she has to go to the dating site for fat girls in order to get decent responses. There is just too much competition from age 30-something fat chicks. She says all the men lie and say that they are taller than they are. A few months ago, she flew 3000 miles to meet a new love interest who said he was 5' 7". She got off the plane and he was 5' 0".

Bible_Belt,

That is very different, even if hot chicks are not paying, they still there, they are available, can receive mail and usually can reply (match.com at least).
"Less paying hot chicks" is not equal to "less hot chicks than in real life".

Obviosuly online just reflects real life, so sure there are more averga eto ugly chicks who are paying members than those hot chicks. As in real life, average to ugly shoudl resort to additional means more than the hot ones.
What is the difference between online and real world? In the sense of availability of hot chicks - not much.

Eharmony: hmm.. I supose it is true, they should be more desperate. So does it mean they do not qualify men much and as are result they are easier to bang? What's your experience? I have never used eharmony, since it seems those desperate chicks there have all the tools and time to qualify men: his job, his house, etc etc i.e. they are almost forced to ask questions on that website, i.e. qualify men.

I never paid eharmony money, but I signed up for the free trial. None of my matches interested me. They seemed to have overtones of "I really need a husband. Time is running out." Eharmony will only match you with people who are within a few years of your age. To hell with that; chicks my own age are getting old. I have been dating 24-26 y/o women since I was 19 - I'm not going to stop now...

Here's my Lay Report for girl3:

Here's my Lay Report for girl2:

It tells you how I met the girls and closed the deal. The process I used for each still works using myspace. Add the girl, leave a comment on her profile, let her respond to your comment via email or by her leaving you a comment, chat for a few emails, get phone number, call and set up date. Get her to your house the same nite of the date and close the deal.

Holy hijacked thread! :cheer:

Hopefully this will bring the topic back on track. We all know that people have the ability to misrepresent themselves online but now they can have someone else do it for them.

Now that I think about it, there are tons of options that a person can use to misrepresent themselves online... I can remember 20 plus years ago when BBS's and IRC was the only means of meeting people online, no photos what so ever. Things have definitely changed.

Yes, eharmony is probably the weirdest site. But I don't see why those overtones are bad? It sure means they are desperate.
So it also means they are actively looking for men and probably are ready to overlook some undesireable features in men.
Why did it turn you off?

I am not getting it really. May I assume you like women who are not desperate and pretend they are not interested in men? Is this something that turn you on? Just wondering.
