The "quality" of the pics is what I am talking about. You should look good in the picture. You should be able to say this is a good picture of yourself, but not due to the skill of the photographer or the effect applied. Your smile and pose should be what's highlighted.

If you don't like a pic of yourself, take more. If you don't like the way you look, hit the gym and eat better. Retouching photos or going "glamour shots" is pretty obvious and screams "desperation" for a woman. Its even worse for a man. All you will attract with these shots are other insecure people.

Hey, here's a suggestion. Why not wear makeup or better yet wear a mask to improve your looks in a picture? Any effect you can't get with these options should be possible with extreme plastic surgery. When is enough, enough? A normal picture that conveys the way you really look doesn't compromise your dignity by presenting yourself as a fraud to others but most importantly yourself. Be a man, dammit.

I'll add that in some instances, props can be used both as a detractor and an enhancer. The prop will detract from a picture of just you and nothing else while enhancing your profile/picture by adding a potential conversation piece.

The key is doing it tactfully though, you shouldn't be completely blatant and cliché with the prop. For example, I once used a picture of me posed standing near my car. Sweet ride but looking at the picture once it was posted I first thought of that old 1980's poster of the British looking chap standing in front of his Rolls Royce arms akimbo with the caption "Poverty Sucks." I thought the guy was an @sshole. The picture came off my profile the same day that it was posted.

However, props if done in an interesting (non traditional way), can dramatically raise the curiosity of a woman. That's a good thing since women are naturally curious. My current profile actually has a photo of me posing with a goose, I kid you not. But guess what, I get a fair share of emails that mention that it is something that they have never seen in a profile.

...and next thing they'll do is to call The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.:D

Yeah.. it is a good prop, but how would you explain your sudden interest in geese? That you are tired of eating chicken?:D

:p Funny...

Actually it was at our local Renaissance Festival and I had my rapier and cape, some kids wanted a picture and Mother Goose was nearby and this totally rocking Ren-Wench chick wanted a pic of me and the goose and... well... it's a long story but it was well worth the picture.... :D

Well.. I meant how would you present it to a woman?

"Some hot chick wanted a pic of me and The Mother Goose since
I was dressed as somebody who can take care of her with a rapier...." and as a proof point to your firm grasp of Mother's neck? :D

All is good.. but I am just thinking what kind of image women can think of while looking at the pic... it is amusing, sure, but what image it conveys besides your meat preferences?

"He is taking the goose as a gift from a woman? Why? Was she his lover?"
"He loves buying fresh geese meat? Uuuh...."
"He loves to flirt with the goose lady? Aha!"

So I just wonder what do you say to women...

Believe or not, but women think approximate that way..."He's got no cool shoes on -> he is dumb". "A car of a cool color goes faster than others of exactly the same model"

Anyway, even if we, men, we told to qualify...what would you think about a man with a goose? The best I can come up with is "Oh... he is trying to get her attention really bad since the prop is creative!"
But women cannot draw such emotionless conclusions: they test it with "is he desperate?"... "is he cruel to animals?"... "what teh heck he is doing with the goose's neck?? will he be good with kids...and me without any neck grabbing?"

I am sure if we can record women's thoughts, it would make novels full of satire like you said.
