Oneitis from a dream?

Has this ever happened to anybody? You might know a girl and not feel anything special for her but then you have a dream about her and you become fixated on her.

This recently happened to me except the girl I dreamt about is literally impossible to get because she lives on the other side of the world and is twice my age and is a celebrity.

What isn't? I didn't explain a case I asked if it had happened to anybody. I know mine isn't really oneitis but it is similar because she hasn't been out of my mind since. I was just wondering if anybody had this bit with an actual girl they knew.

That's lust bro. If you've never been with the chick, it's not one-itis.

It seems crazy but I can definitely relate to this...except for the celebrity across the world part. This has not happened to me in a long time but I can remember a few times when it did. They were all girls I knew.

The mind is a strange thing. It's amazing how a dream can change your feelings so drastically.

Yes I've definitely had this happen to me about chicks I know, but the feeling usually fades after a day or so.

I know it;s not oneitis I'm just saying it's similar. I would like to know your stories about girls you've dreamt about that you actually knew though.

Well, the last time it happened to me was about 2 years ago while I was in college. I had known this girl for several months. We went out as friends a couple of times and even though she was pretty hot I was not interested in anything more. She had a 2 year old child and I'm just generally not into chicks with kids.

One night I had a dream in which we were laying on a bed and talking. We didn't have sex in the dream but we seemed to have a romantic relationship going on from what I remember. Followign that dream I started thinking of her in a different way. I started wanting to move beyond friendship. It never did but it took several weeks before those feelings started going away.

It's one of those things that's hard to explain. I don't know how a simple dream can result in a complete change of feelings like that. I hope I don't ever have a dream about a dude and start wanting man-love!

Another thing probably worth mentioning is that, as I've gotten older, I don't think I'm as susceptible to these dreams as I was in adolescence (and college too) I've dreamed of chicks I know more recently and have not had those kinds of changes in feeling.

To me this is an interesting thing that Alittude has brought up. It seems like it's relatively common for people to experience this. Just wondering if anyone has any theories as to why this happens. It just doesn't make any sense.

Yes, this has happened to me a couple of times. The last time was actually only a few weeks ago, when I had a dream about this girl who I've never talked to, but only noticed for her special looks. She's pretty good looking, but in another way.
Anyway, I had this dream about her, and she was constantly on my mind the next two or three days. But then it faded.
I think it was the feeling I got in the dream which was so strong. And when you get those strong feelings from a girl, something obviously happens. Because she was the one who made you feel that way - in your dream.

I think this can happen to girls as well, as one of the things they are attracted to is if the guy makes her feel good.

Yeah when I had the dream it wasn't sexual either it was just that the girl seemed so lovely in the dream and like such a nice person.

I guess its the dreamer's subconscious desires manifesting themselves, but the subconscious can be pretty wacky and mixes stuff up, so it might be you fancy girl X, but dream about being happy with girl Y. Then you wake up and see girl Y in a new light.

My gf told me she had one of these dreams about me before we'd even spoke to each other. She imagined me and my friend were helping her escape from some zombies in a 28 Days Later type situation. I guess I give off that zombie-holocaust-survivalist kinda vibe.

I regularly dream I am Spider-Man and especially enjoy the feeling of the sticky web-fluid shooting from my wrist. What would Freud say about that?

Thats not oneitis at all? Its not even close!

Oneitis example of a dream and what i tihnk your trying to say.

My last oneitis I was in a relationship for 6 months. After we broke up i was depressed about the whole thing for ages.....1 year on I still had the odd dream that feels so real its untrue. Where me and her were still together and everything was how it was. Then you wake up......take a few seconds for reality to set in.....then your heart slumps and you realise that it was just a dream and the harsh relality comes back.

THAT is oneitis. "Wanting someone you previously were involved with."

An example of what you wrote would be.....When i watch "The girl next door" for the first ever time and instantly had an infatuation with Elisha Cuthbert.

An infatuation and a love are very diffrent. If you cant see the diffrence....i pity you.

I have already stated that I know it wasn't oneitis, I just said it was similar in the fact that I was thinking about her a lot. So tomatoes if you can't read things and interpret them for what they really mean then I pity you.

Ashley it wasn't anything like that it wasn't sexual at all it was more about the pesonality. I'm not going to that High School Forum because I can't understand half the stuff on there.

I've had those kind of dreams too, but only of women I knew and it's been 6 years since I've had a dream like that. When I was in high school and college, these dreams were much more prevalent.

Her personality will be nothing more than a figment of your imagination... definitely not an accurate representation of how she is in person unless by pure chance... you've probably subconsciously modelled her personality on TV or movie roles she's had, or from interviews you've seen from her... I've been fortunate enough to meet a lot of the chicks you aspire to fvck when you're growing up, and most are far removed from their TV / movie roles... don't let that onscreen representation fool you

Haha no kidding dude of course it's not what she's really like but that is what attracted me to her in the dream. I'm over it anyway now and maybe it was a bad example and this has really gone off topic so can we try to stick to the point and people's own experiences.
