Today while sitting on the train, I was sitting in one of those 4 seats which face each other. Next to me was an old lady, and across from me was a businessman and a little girl (about 10 years old). Standing near the seats was a middle aged woman.

Anyway, the old woman told the little girl to stand up and give up her seat for adults. Now the train rules says students have to give up their seats for adults who are standing, but at this time there wasn't any adults who were standing! Everyone already had a seat.

So the old crone goes to the little girl "You need to give up your seat!" again, and she's getting all confused.

This goes on for a while, with the crone telling the kid that she should give up her seat (even though there's no one around to give her seat to). Eventually some woman tells the crone to leave her alone, and the crone snaps some rude remark back ("Mind yer own business").

Damn, I don't know if the old crone is senile and rude, or just rude altogether. These people need a hobby real bad...

Some adults are idiots...regardless of their age. There have been countless times I have witnessed adults be extremely disrespectful and rude to children...downright hateful and abusive, in fact. And then they get all indignant when the kid is disrespectful towards them. Adults cannot expect a kid to respect or listen to them if they are rude, disrespectful and mean. They aren't setting a good example and are actually encouraging kids to be rude.

Anytime I see anything like that I speak up to the offending adult.

Are you saying that the elderly in general need a hobby and without one they become rude? If you are can the same be said for all age groups?

Your term "these people" smacks of bigotry.

old people are mean alot of times .
i think they get older and forget that everyone else has feelings .

At this point you probably have a woman (or multiple women) chasing you around, calling you all the time, wanting to be with you. So let's talk about how to KEEP a woman interested in you once you have her. This is BIG! There is nothing worse than getting dumped by a woman that you really, really like.

I think old people are just feed up with life. They've probably been around the block a few too many times and they're tired of seeing and hearing the same things over and over again for years.

I can't wait to be an old man. I'll sit on a pourch and drink whisky all day! In a phatty rocking chair!!!!

"GET OFF MY LAWN YOU DAMNED KIDS!!! I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE YOU LITTLE BASTARDS!!"

Do you feel that “old people” are the only humans that are capable of having a mean attitude?
Do you feel that all “old people” are mean?
Do you have a cut off age to determine what is an “old person? If so, what is it?

Is this your impression of all “old people”? Do you have a cut off age to go with your definition of an “old person”? If so, what is it?

So which is it? If the middle aged woman was standing near the seats then the old crone wasn't doing anything wrong by telling the student that she should let the adult sit down.

No I said this is how I want to be when I'm old, I'd say about 73+ is about the age where I'll be in this state.

You said that this is how you want to be. Why would you want to be so mean spirited in your declining years. It doesn't have to be like that. Your future is not set in stone.

I figure by the time i'm 70+ years old I'll have every right to be some what mean to kids on my lawn.
My grandpa (god rest his soul) use to say things like that all the time. He wasn't necssarily mean to EVERYBODY but certain people pissed him off and he let them know. I let alot of stuff slide as it stands right now. I'm sure I'll tighten up when I get older.

I couldn't figure this out either, the story is quite obscure

Who knows, but i can't wait to get old either.....it's like snoop dogg says, "Growing old is cool", women won't affect me nearly as much, i'll be smarter, more confident, i'll say whatever the hell i want, i can argue irrationally and illogically, and i'll just sit in my chair complaining about what "everyone else" is doing wrong.

if thats the worse thing that happens to u on the train ur damn lucky..

i remember when i was about 14, catching the train home late at night..

almost empty carrige..
me, a father, and his 2 young sons. his 2 sons kept holding the doors open at each stop, that would stop the train from leaving as it thought people were still getting on/off..
so this guy (drunk as a skunk) comes through the carrige doors from a different carrige and he starts yelling at me "i've had a hard day, i just want to get home and ur keeping me from leaving... blah blah blah blah.... i'll F*CKING STAB YA" and this dad who was quite a bit bigger then the pissed guy didn't do anything, didn't even mention that it was his kids keeping the train held up and not me..

luckily he was all talk and didn't do anything... but god damn i was scared..

The older you get, the less you care about what others think of you. Thus you're more prone to say what you think out loud. At 58, I'm having the time of my life.

Am I the only one who sees the contradiction? I don't see the point of this story...

If I was in your place, I'd have given up my seat to the old lady, and told her to leave the kid alone. I can't believe you didn't do/say anything...

Ok, just to clarify, since the story was a bit confusing: by the time the kid actually figured out what was going on, the (middle-aged standing) woman was already gone. I didn't see her disappear, so either she got off at the station, or else found a seat.

I admit the kid was a bit slow, but I didn't see the need for the old woman to go on like that. It wasn't her actions I was pissed off at, only her attitude and tone.

And personally, I don't really like the idea of old people being rude simply because they don't care anymore. I'd imagine a lifetime of experiences has given them a better temperament. What happened to "Older, wiser"?

Men frequently err by talking too much. They often monopolize conversations, droning on and on about topics that bore women to tears. They think they're impressing the women when, in reality, they're depressing the women.
