but this has gone a little too far.

... http://westhamonline.net/forum_flat.php?1064459||1||

nothing against asians or asian culture, I'm more concerned with Britain losing its british-ness. What the hell is wrong with Guy Fawkes?

I know this is potentially a controversial thread but hell. I needed to vent.

Sorry that thread is too "private" to be fully understandable for people who are not from that community.

Who's this Guy Fawkes? What's about the bonfire? Why do they want to put a bengali stuff? Is it because there are many "asians" who live in the community?

By the way, just for those who are not british or who are not familiar with "british vocabulary", "Asian" in british English actually means "South Asian", in other words, Indian or Pakistani. It has nothing to do with the Chinese or the Japanese or the Filipinos.:nono:

I am not from the british community and I feel for you guys.

It is really sad when the original population of natives goes down, while populations of immigrants and others goes up.

it wasn't intended for you. just maybe some Brits are feeling like I do.

I don't have an issue with asians although I can't say I've got a good opinion of the MAJORITY of those who I've met.. however my gripe is a nation losing its identity rather than asian or african or whatever immigrants.

they've banned christmas parties at some major corporations because it might 'offend' people who don't celebrate it, for pete's sake..

like.. there's more brits LEAVING Britain every year than there's foreigners coming in.

Let's enjoy this thread while we can.

It's a disgrace, it truly is. I always see this like a house.

In your house, you have your rules. You can give work to a gardner, a maid, an accountant, etc. But you can also deny it. You can lock your door and say, "no thankyou". Let's say you let them in, a visitor, or worker, whatever. Then suddenly you can't do something you and your family has done for a long time, because the visitors feel insulted? And now you have to stop doing your thing AND instead do something of their liking?

Mexicans going into the border and not having the least respect for the US. I mean, they were demonstrating in the streets cursing in spanish. They don't know English for gods sake. They should be grateful.

Did you know that the new border wall that the US will build is called "the wall of shame" (nothing to do with the jewish)!!! What's the shame? Shame on Mexico for not having jobs! Go Arnold.

I imagine you feel bad about all the Scots, Welsh and Irishmen filling your country for the past few hundred years, congregating in poor sections of the cities and speaking bastardized English. I know I do.

Exactly.. if you go to another country you should expect to respect if not adhere to their customs, and CERTAINLY not try to inflict your own upon your host.

I see British diplomats going to any number of the places in the world on a visit. I see them dressing up in the traditional costume of their host, eating the host country's food and partaking in the host country's pastimes.

"When in Rome..." - why can't that apply to Britain as well?

Seriously, the sooner I'm out of this country, the better. Which is a damned shame because I used to love living here. Sadly, no more. :( The England I grew up with is gone, perhaps for good.

its normal human sociology , when large groups ,from the same place with the same culture and norms, move to a place they most definately feel unknown and insecure to have to reconfine themself into their own culture to feel safe .

At first the foreigners get segregated by their new society , of course some welcome the new people but most feel as you do that they will bring change and decide to socially push them into their own place , geografical segregation , this reconforms theyr feelings as foreigners and insecurity , would you like to live in a place where you feel insecure and not in place ?
so what they do is reinforce their traditional norms and culture as most as they possibly can to feel that they are in place , secure .....

and people, you act like asians and people from underdeveloped countries are the only ones that are doing this , but actually it was the "western world" that started it all...

and today we have economically wealthy "westerners" going to places like spain or dubai or many other countries to settle in and live their lives , THEY ALSO change that surrounding they move to , they bring their own culture and norms over to that country and most of spains people are actually against that.
they also feel secure in that segregated space, that most people are now buying, and they employ the not so wealthy spain public to be their maids and buttlers drivers so on... o_O
They start their own clubs and pubs near , their own special shops .... why ?
for the same reason as the asians , they want to feel secure , at place.....

instead of trying to defy each others differences why not try to adapt into a new one where all are welcome , change is inevitable , nothing can remain the same....
the more you try to fight it the more it will hurt you.....

I'm talking about some age-old traditions here. I don't think those should be lost. That's what I'm trying to say.

I've got nothing against say asian people celebrating asian stuff in britain or brits celebrating british stuff in asia.

I'm talking about a nation losing its identity as a whole - especially since foreigners moving into the country make every effort to bring their culture with them and embed into their community (food shops, pubs, clubs whatever) and don't seem to conform to what the host nation is doing. I have no problem with that.

I have no problem with differences nor with people maintaing their culture and preserving their society - THIS IS MY WHOLE POINT. British people are not preserving their OWN traditions while immigrants are. My problem is that british people can't feel british anymore if stuff like this is happening on a nationwide, official scale.

I feel a stranger in my own country and I've lived here for YEARS - you have to experience it to believe it I guess.

I think I understand where you're coming from, Alex. A lot of people in America feel the same way about the influx of Hispanics - who will represent 25% of our population in 50 years. Within that timespan, we can expect that Spanish will achieve parity with English in much of the country and other massive cultural shifts. This scares a lot of people.

Are you afraid England is losing its Englishness, or Britain is losing its Britishness? I'm sure you're aware that these are two very different things. I think Britain has been losing its Britishness since the end of empire, if not before. It's tough to say what British is today, and impossible to define a British "nation". England is much easier, and maybe much more under threat.

Good analogy. I agree 100%!

I am far from racist and I'm definitely not a patriot either, but I do take exception to foreigners demanding the country adapt to them and them not adapting to the country.

I personally make the effort to learn a little about different cultures and religions, and I often ask Asians about their culture and even adopt some of their philosophies in some cases. If they want to celebrate Ramadan, Yom Kippur, Diwali, that's their choice. I won't stop them, but if I want to celebrate bonfire night, halloween and christmas, that's my right, and it's not even a race issue.

i love you all for not bashing on asians... cuz i'm asian (despite my name).

a lot of asians think like americans do.

a lot of us think it's retarded when america has to adapt to the spanish speaking people... like if you speak english as your first language, you MUST know a little bit of spanish to be hired for a job.

it pisses me off... they need to adapt to our country.

(and, yes, i know this thread is about britain... not the US)

yeah man, its a real shame when a country loses it's culture like that

thats what me and my buddy say over here in Canada:

If people from another country (a country very different from us) came over and demanded they build something special for them (a sports arena or facility), we would be forced to accommidate them. whereas if I went over to their country and demanded they build a hockey rink for me (in a country that doesnt play hockey) they would laugh in my face

Whites and those living by Western ideals of reason and logic and freedom are under pressure from other, underdeveloped races

Yes, I'm sorry, I should have been more specific. You're absolutely right. I'm feeling that English-ness is under threat rather than British-ness. I apologise.

Jariel, exactly.. I feel that I don't have the right anymore. Not like that would stop me but even subconscious knowledge of the fact stuff you grew up with is being phased out for no apparent reason, and being replaced with, for a lack of a better word, 'alien' stuff - and the government is fully in favour - just unsettles me.

Thanks for having what has so far been an intelligent discussion so far guys, I appreciate it, and it's nice to see we can get along now and again. lol.

omg freedom is under pressure ??, that kind of crap talk is what racists & nazis use to justify their beliefs....

and is by freedom you mean that you cant express yourself in a certain way that may be percieved as an insult to another person , then so what ? should brown people walk around yelling ****ing whiteys and such no because we have found enough out about each other and should have enough respect for each other to not intentionally insult each other.... freedom is under pressure my ass....
Races coming toghether is whats under pressure , by ignorence, stubborness, and generlisation(sp?)...

there are clear walls between the two cutlures , the home culture and the foreign culture, each one is trying to protect themself , and think that letting the other in they lose theyr own , brown people face racisme and opression against them and confine more into themselves , white people fear theyr own loss of identification and thus confine more into themselves. they both atm are afraid of each other and fear becomes hate eventually...

i fear theres gonna be a war soon , war between cultures... the pawns of that war is already moving , here in norway its clear that soon sonethings gonna happen. the tension betweeen the cultures is at a all time high and ready to just blow , we got both cultures coliding with each other trying to justify their actions , this creates more walls between the people here now , and someday idk there might be something that happens...
