I'm confused. How is the price of oil and the price of gas related? How come the price of gas fluctuates wildly from country to country and in the US state by state. Is it really the market price?

The national average for the US for regular is $3.59. In the city I live in the lowest price is $3.85

I'm getting my data from Gas Buddy

what about offshore drilling in the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico?

What about shale oil in the rocky mountains?

I've been hearing from my professors that there is a sh!t load in the rockies.

Gasoline is NOT the same as oil. Oil has to be refined in a refinery.

So, oil goes to a refinery...and from a refinery we get gasoline, diesel, kerosene, jet fuel, asphalt, etc.

Country to country? A series of issues...transportation costs, maybe they have to import their refined products, maybe their emission laws require a lower sulfur product, etc. Same goes with state to state.
