Our club president is going to the US next month (for hunting). I'll check to see if he can contact you. He won't be in Wisconsin though, I don't think.

There are people who can tell you every detail of what you need to know about regulatory aspects of international movement of trophies or whatever. It will save you the trouble. I'll check with the club president to see if he can contact you while he is over there.

Huge wild pigs are available in the Northern Territory. BTW sambar deer are a threatened species yet you can hunt them here in NSW, free ranging, no tags, no bag limits, no trophy fee, if you want to try. This is potentially a 300 kg deer, for the bucks, and I doubt whether you can chase them very cheaply in their home country, if at all.

If he's traveling to hunt, he is most likely going to be out west for Elk or Mule Deer. Around here in the mid-west, most every season is closed besides small game and trapping. I doubt he's coming all the way here to hunt raccoon or coyote.

I was reading about the wild boar there. We've got some here, but they are scattered around and fairly hard to come by - and not anywhere near the size.

trump and woods? i have seen their wives and i am not impressed. if you learn russian AND moved to the cis/baltic states you could do so much better. however, that would take some courage...so i doubt if that will happen.

trust me, most of you are not cut out for doing it. your first bout with giardia and you would be crying to come home.

the keys: you gotta be a loner, you gotta want adventure, you gotta be your own man, you have to work hard at learning russian (even in the baltic states everyone speaks it), and you have to distance yourself from all of your old friends/associates in the west. they will not find your adventure to be "cool". most just wish they could ditch the wife and kids and do the same. however, they won't admit it and will laugh at you.

He's going to Texas, something about Barbary sheep or some damn creature. I forgot what kind of sheep, but the rare wild type, not your farm type. Some guys pay $30K US to get rare sheep, (and some of their colleagues laugh)Maybe a game ranch. Part hunt. Part travel.

Sambar and rusa in NSW, open all year. Fallow, red April to October. Hog, April only. Boar are to pigs what wolves are to dogs. We don't have true boar, but after a few generations, things like evolution take their toll. I think they send some of the meat to Germany and they make sausages out of it.

We had a guy go to Russia for some bears. They're mounted in his house.

As I said, the Scandinavian tourists go to our tropic areas. Maybe if you encountered them there, in holiday spirits, you could win them over with your Jethro Bodine/ Cooter from Dukes of Hazzard charm. Who really knows?

Heh, ouch. When I'm not in the "woods mode" I actually get accused of being "metro" quite often. People don't believe that I hunt when I tell them: "You don't seem like the type."

Anyway, this thread is starting to twist into "The Mature Hunter", so I'll pinch this off.

I'm not completely for or against the import-a-ho option really, even after all the discussion. It's feasible, but there would need to be a whole hell of a lot of terms and criteria to meet before even getting on a plane. Yes, I see how it could be perceived "AFC", but it depends on the motivation. If it's a matter of "can't get laid" being the motivation, that's AFC. However, if the motivation is "poor quality locally and no means to travel", then I think it's something else.

Consider this: I can get a car here, no problem. American car quality is poor, so I import a Honda or BMW and am far happier with the product. Am I AFC for importing? An import isn't any cheaper, but there is the question of "value". Oh, and there is the "dependability" factor to consider also. Hondas, BMW's, Mitsubishi's, Mecedes, etc are known to get ridiculously high miles on them before going to hell (staying better longer, overall). American cars are notorious for turning to sh!t the same year you get them... blown trannies in Fords and Chryslers, Chevy recalls and nickle/dime stuff failing, rusting out, planned obsolescence... (getting fat, developing crap attitudes and getting b!tchy, etc.)

With all the hassle, it boils down to a "time and energy that could better directed" thing. It's definitely a better method to travel (for whatever reason), THEN sarge: Fuxx first, ask questions later, just like any other woman situation.

See, if I didn't have to jack around online, then this would be a no brainer; I would just head down to the Russian women showroom, pick one out, and drive one home the same day. With all the legalities and correspondance, it's an aweful bunch of stress and time to endure with no promise of it actually working out. Just what I need: a festering thorn in my side for a year or longer. Sure, an AFC with no other options may have the motivation to endure that drama, but they don't have any promise of a happily-ever-after, either.

I should start a "Russian women showroom" here in the States. I betcha there would be more women protesting out front of "McVulpine's Drive-Thru Ruskies" than in front of an abortion clinic!
