All I wanted to say was that we build civilization for a reason.
It has it's disadvantages but we are still better of living in it. Bali is living on tourists, without 1st world they would suffer.

Guys with AKs can be OK, I met a few, myself, however I wanted to point out the reason why people in 3rd world generally don't aspire for more and therefore live on minimum, which seems so non-materialistic ....when you become too rich or grow more bananas....bad guys gonna rip you off....success demotivator. And I don't blame them. Problem is when bad season comes and you have famine, thanks to lack of overproduction.
I actually agree with you Dan. Bali is not 3rd world either, it is just a pacific island paradise that is rapidly changing due to a flood of expats and tourist money. Life is easy there because the comforts of civilazation have arrived but not the expenses or social corrosion that makes us functionally poor. We should also maybe make a distinction, there is a world of difference between a poor but peaceful country and an actual failed state. We say "3rd world" but they are not equivalent.

It'll be very interesting to see how everyone reacts if this book/film actually cracks the mass consciousness.

When a state is poor, not part of civilization or not having strong bond (alliance)with it, it becomes easy prey to failed states(Eastern Europe before, post WW2) or it can easily become one....all it takes is one demagogue promising social paradise(Cuba, Venezuela etc.)

I'm not sure a movie will open eyes or do cracks. The scam seems to be on deeper level than social engineering of whatever group pressure. I believe the problem is in us. To see that we need more than movie.

Example: Who understood the movie 'Kingdom of Heaven' or even better one 'The Revolver' or 'Fight Club'? Not many. I didn't.
Who understands what Buddha or Jesus said? After 2000 years, not many. Who understands it on level that "cured" them? Even fewer. I'm certainly struggling despite all efforts.

So don't hold your breath...."enlightenment" can't be hurried by social pressure...movies or social system.
