for centuries it was also the general consensus that it was immoral for black and white people to marry whatever you say though, D.
You're taking apples and trying to squeeze orange juice out of them with that statement. I agree with another poster that the issue of premarital sex isn't taboo in society any longer, however it is still considered by the majority to still be immoral. Not to start a religious debate, but it's a fact that nearly everybody subscribes to one set of religious doctrine or another. While the religions may vary, there is one thing that all but some fringe cults agree on - sex is something you
should save until marriage. Whether this is right or wrong isn't for debate, the underlying fact remains that religious values shaped our societies into what they are today - and because of this, premarital sex - while not taboo - is still considered immoral by society. Ask an upstanding member of your community or church what their views are on fornication - odds are good that they will tell you the same thing I've been saying.
In further reference to the 'blacks dating whites being immoral' at one point in time, this is literally correct. However, the arguments that advocates of this statement made were all centrally flawed. When you peel off the bias and stigmas associated with it all you're left with is that some people didn't like black people mixing with whites. Nothing more, nothing less. They used 'morality' as an excuse to further their racist views. The argument that sex
should be saved for marriage, on the other hand, isn't flawed. In a
perfect union, both the husband and the wife should be able to give each other to one another for their first time. It's not hiding racism, it's not hiding bigotry. It's just the way that things are. Obviously, this isn't a perfect world and sex before marriage does happen (and I'm probably the abstinence's crowd's worst nightmare, someone who can't recall how many people he's slept with). The fact that sex between unwed partners happens, and frequently, doesn't negate the fact that it is immoral. If that was the case, if more people started urinating on their partner during sex, this would be considered moral as well. If more people started doing gangbangs, they would be moral. If people got their animals involved, bestiality would become moral. Obviously, they aren't, nor will they ever be.
Sex is a great thing. I enjoy it on a regular basis, and I'm not married... and I'm sure many of you do too, or you wouldn't be on the site. However, you should realize that it doesn't promote the goodness of human character, and because of this it is considered - and will be considered - to be immoral.
