It's complete broscience. Nobody has ever produced a study or anything similar saying that not beating your meat will make it easier to get girls. That said, so much of the game is mental that oftentimes it works in the same way that a baseball player can hit 10 more home runs in a season because he carries his lucky rabbit's foot with him. Superstition/placebo effect.

Higher testosterone itself doesn't mean anything. Like "being more creative" or "feeling better" or not "shying away from stuff" ...
Can you copy and paste an article that shows the correlation you are actually referring to?

Ever heard of Magritte? It's actually fun:

Whatever you are feeling is probably the placebo effect. I recently stopped drinking diet coke and it made me feel good. Because I proved to myself that I can change my behavior.

Whatever you are doing is technically called "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy" aka CBT.
Here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_behavioral_therapy

It is indeed one of the most effective therapy methods and well-respected in psychiatry.

You can exercise self-control as much as you want; it's probably good for you -- just don't pretend that you become scientific and rational when you c/p lines from papers you don't understand.
Boilermaker... My post showing a study that abstinence raises T levels was simply a response to marmel saying the exact opposite (with no proof).

That study I linked was not supposed to be a continuation of my previous post dealing with my personal experience. In fact, if anything, the study I linked pointed out that it found no specific evidence of what I described.

The fact is, let's just say this IS a placebo effect. In that case, isn't it still doing what I set out for it to do? If I stop masturbating in order to think clearer, and by not masturbating I start thinking clearer, does it REALLY matter if it's physical or mental?

Ok, so yeah, if it actually is placebo then trying to convince others to try is pointless. But if that's the case, why did it work for me when I did it trying to prove it does nothing?

PDubb. I am not an expert in placebo business. I am not sure, I was just telling you my guess. I could be wrong.

Based on my five minute glance on placebo on wiki; it looks like it's actually more complicated than it seems. Even though you may know there's a placebo action; your body might still react to it. Here's a short excerpt from Wikipedia:

"Roughly only 30% of the population seems susceptible to placebo effects, and it is not possible to determine ahead of time whether a placebo will work or not. (However the placebo effect is zero in studies of blood poisoning and up to 80% in studies of wound on the duodenum)".

I am sure among that 30%, there are people who are aware of this phenomenon. It's a complicated question,

all I am saying is; - no masturbation is not necessarily good because it has anything to do with masturbation ...

It could well be a self-control exercise that is beneficial to the soul. But then again, you could be trying to eat less and that will definitely have a positive effect on your health as well.

My personal guess is "no masturbation is good for you" is more bro-science ( as somebody already said it) than real science.

If you need to do this to raise your testosterone then it must have been pathetically low to begin with.

If it is placebo or pointless, why the hell do you care? It´s not going to be mainstream now, or never, so don´t fear that you end up in odd minority who like to fap to porn.

Well if you read the title of this forum; you'll see why I care.

This is self-help and we are discussing whether cutting a major outlet from a man's life (regular/reasonable masturbation) is actually helping because it is about masturbation itself; or whether it is all about self-motivation.

To a lot of guys who might be undecided; this could be an interesting discussion, and nobody fears about being in the minority. In fact, I like to be in the minority whenever possible, because simpletons like you tend to pick up every little piece of popular turd that flies by you off the wind.

Being in the minority is usually helpful, in that regard. Because majority doesn't have a clue.
