Guess you don't know what his favorite book is then. Want a hint? It's sold more copies than any other book in history.
Yeah. I kind of knew that under all that posturing and the cool pragmatism was the original kid from Mayberry who probably taught Sunday School these days.

Big softie!

The premise of the article is incorrect. "Certain situations" do NOT CAUSE people to cheat. To cheat is to make a the choice to cheat. "Certain situations" merely create the environment where cheating can occur.

I agree; I didnt think about that when I first read it.

Most of that list is just reasons people will capitalize on a cheating opportunity. In truth there could be thousands of reasons, but I think there is a key distinction between men and women:

Men know they are cheating, regardless of the reason, and dont try to frame it differently. Whether they get away with it or not, it is what it is.

Women also know they are cheating, but the difference is they will justify it somehow afterwards to absolve themselves of any guilt or accountability. The post-coital justification becomes their reason for doing so.

That's the lamest thing someone can say to me if I am in a committed relationship. I wouldn't even take it as an insult or taunt. What Rollo said is true for the most part.
Why is it lame? Because you have never stopped to question your motivations?

I didn't say that "passing up opportunity makes you weak", I said "some might say that it makes you weak". I made that statement to make you think about what you were saying.

Believe it or not, morality is much less about right or wrong than it is control. A lot of what you think is "moral" actually serves society and/or religion at the expense of the individual.

Point is, there is always another side to the coin, and if you always take everything at face value, you aren't doing yourself any favors.

And just for the record, I agree with Rollo.....it's all about opportunity and reason, although I would say that in many cases the "reason" is more about justification than reality.

And there you go.

The more ethical of the population what to believe there is some underlying, psychological reason. I think some people will do anything and everything in their mind to believe we're more than just the current most intelligent animal on the planet.

People with self-imposed rules need reasons. Those rejecting self-imposed rules do not.
Perhaps your most eloquent quote to date.

Most people in this life are inclined to make their necessity a virtue. The men and women who proudly hang onto a moral high ground in regards to their fidelity often have the least opportunity to be tempted to cheat (see, the 250lbs+ variety).

And the reason this is obvious is because the people for whom infidelity isn't an afterthought don't write articles about the 9 reasons people cheat. They're too busy with the issues of a life where infidelity is a non-issue. In fact just my personalization in this thread with regard to my own marriage makes me sound superior - I'm not, I simply don't have cause to consider cheating on my wife.

But you see, people crave indignation. They LOVE the adrenal rush that comes with an indignant association - and nothing stimulates this better than just the suspicion of infidelity and jealousy. So in the absence of real indignation, we'll settle for a manufactured indignation; "How to spot the signs of a CHEAT!!" Been spending too many hours at the office doing OT to make ends meet in a tough economy? Ha ha! I gotch you muthahƒucker!!! Office romance for sure! We can't get enough of that rush.

Good stuff, I like that a lot. I think this planet considers us to be a flea, sooner or later it will scratch. The time of man is but a blink of an eye, to this planet.

Not getting enough is bad, right? So for men more is better. For women, having sex with a guy that turns them on makes them fell better. Either way you're searching for something that makes you feel better.

Hey jophil,

Where did you pick up that accent?

How far south do you live?
Ha ha ! Dixie stuck to me back in the day. I wasted almost three years of my youth at Duke messing with Mary Belle and Cindy Lou.
