Yep, I like that kind of long hair...but the in between shaggy long I just can't stand at all. Not sure why...I just really, really dislike it.

At least that cut doesn't look like a guy straight out of my sister's 1974 yearbook, and isn't so feminine looking. It's better...but I still don't like it. Sorry...I'm one of those people that either like bald, very short or very, very hairband long....and nothing in between.
Ignore Wyldfire's opinion. Almost all women I know like long hair, providing it looks a bit wilder.
It's not about your hair anyway, it's about personality and looks. Changing your hair is basically just tweaking your appearance to your advantage.

When I saw your picture, all I could think of was "Is that a girl?"

Men just aren't supposed to have long hair. It's a girl thing, like skirts (kilts don't count, I'm in the U.S.A.).

If I were you I'd cut the hair down until the longest strand of hair is about an inch to an inch and a half long (for the top), while going even thinner on the sides and back, with the bangs almost non-existent.

Me, I'll get flustered if the hair creeps even the teensiest bit past my ears (i.e. the shaggy dog look).

But that's just me.

My $.02,

Ben

When people say that men aren't supposed to have long hair I often wonder what they did before scissors were invented.

Go long, go caveman style.

Say's who?? What a dumb statement to make. I've got news for ya, throughout the majority of history, men have had long hair. Only recently since the early/mid 19th century has short hair become popular...but before that, the majority of men had long hair...and when i say long, i mean shoulder length and longer. And hey, chicks dig it, like i said it's helped me a lot with game, so, maybe ya might wanna re-think that? ;)

Caveman style? Hell no. Then that'd mean wearing dead animal furs and smelling terrible 24/7 (no actual showers and clean, treated water along with soap back then). Plus wouldn't that dead animal fur rot because of the dead skin attached to it?

I honestly made that up about the animal furs, but I'm not really sure what else they used for clothing back then. Unless they were naked, in which case I'll definately NOT follow that style.

Alright, I'll buy that. However, that doesn't matter because that time is not in living memory. It's no longer acceptable to have hair quite that long. Plus the fact that having such hair will, at the very least, cause people to think you're different. At worst, it can really hurt you, from not getting that high salary job all the way to some really big guy beating you up because he thinks that long hair makes you look like a little punk. Now me, I'll think it's strange, and wonder why in the hell they decided to have long hair, but I won't say anything.

I've heard that back in the days of Rome it was common practice for officers of the Roman Army to have sex with little boys because the thinking was that a woman would weaken the man, at least during war time. It sounds very strange to us now, but it was OK then.

Any man with long hair is someone who wishes to challenge the status quo. This isn't something that people need, most of the time. When I see long hair, I usually think of a few things:
- He's a punk who might want to cause trouble.
- He's a hippie and a pothead, who isn't worth a damn.
- If I see a middle-aged or older man with long hair, I think he either has a serious mid-life crisis or never grew out of being a hippie.

I'm not so blind as to think that ALL long haired men are this way, but it's what I tend to have as a first impression. And I doubt such a first impression will help you.

Oh really? What kind of women do you like? I wonder if perhaps you like a different type of woman, and thus this works out better for you because of that?

I have actually thought this out a bit. I don't think it's a good idea, mainly because of the negative implications involved.

Also, I don't think that the women I want would enjoy long hair. Even if they did, I would still have short hair because I won't feel right with anything else.

You are sooo WRONG on so many levels...i just typed out like 2 pages worth of explaining to you, but my computer is messed up, and logged me out...but what i basically said to you was don't be ignorant and sterotype. The majority of men with long hair are not trouble makers, punks, and pot-heads. In fact the majority are quite the opposite. For your knowledge, a lot of the one's who are the trouble makers, punks, and pot-heads, are those with short hair! And first off, who cares if someone's a pot-head, who really cares??? I'm not an advocate of using substances, but if people wanna do their drugs, or smoke pot, then by all means that's their perrogative. I could care less, as long as they're nice people. I judge people based on how nice they are. If people wanna be idiots and harm their bodies then that's their problem...why should you or me worry about that?? It's none of my business what people choose to do.

And as far as the job thing goes, let's just say that i've had no problem working in 2 very well-known world wide banks, and 1 stock brokerage firm! And for your info, the NYC Police Dept. has a number of longhaired men. I've seen this for myself. You can see a NYC Police Officer with long hair in uniform in NYC. Betcha didn't know that. Things are changing my friend, and thank God for that! My dad was a NYC police officer and even he can attest to this. I recently seen a NYC police officer in uniform with dreads not too long ago.

So, don't tell me long hair's not acceptable.

And so what if someone doesn't wanna follow the status quo and wants to grow their hair long??? Big deal? What harm is being done?? I think none! What is it of your concern??? To each their own! 98% of men grow their hair out not cause they wanna go against the "staus quo", but because they like the look!

And what kinda chicks am i referring to that like longhaired men? Hah, they are some of the most beautiful women you can ever lay eyes on. Think of Heather Locklear/Carmen Electra/and your beautiful porn star over at the playboy mansion!

By the way, how old are you Abbott??

No Escape:

OK, you've definately made your point. Perhaps things are a little different where you live. Here, at the very least, I don't see any of the things that you refer to. Some of it might have to do with the fact that I live in a quite conservative town. Thus, my view of things are then distorted by what I see around here.

I also haven't seen a CEO with long hair, while then again I could be wrong. I don't exactly go through pictures of them seeing if they have long hair or not. Same goes for policemen or other white-collar jobs. All I know is that the only times I've seen someone who has long hair, dresses gothic/punk/alternative, use piercings, or do anything that makes them look radically different is in these low-wage sh|t-jobs, like pizza joints, fast-food, gas stations, and K-Mart. But like I said before, perhaps things are different where you live.

I mention the status quo because I think it's important. I won't lie, I too challenge the status quo. But not with appearance. For me it's my belief system, and in that case I challenge the status quo very much. I figure that I already challenge the status quo so much, that I don't need to challenge it anymore and to do so would only hurt me. I'm not a conservative, but I definately tend to favor the more conservative look.

I'm 19.5 years old, but often mistaken for older. Why do you ask? Is it because you think my views regarding the matter are old fashioned?

You're right...each to his own. I just don't think it's good to look like a girl.

Ben

P.S. I've gotten the feeling that some things are changing, and some of them not for the better.

Long hair rocks, without doing anything you wil stand out from a normal crowd. The best thing is that even if you have long hair, you can make it seem like it's short by putting it back. There simply are more options. Only real con is the mid-long hair you'll first have, takes some more time in front of a mirror. But once it's long no more then 2 minutes is needed.

I use to be on this site a lot before 2003.

IN 2003 I went to jail shaved my head, I spent 5 months there.

I let my hair grow out for 5 months, then I realized that All of my youthful years as a troublemaker happened as a shorthair.

I decided I needed a change, I moved out of my parents house, grew my hair, cut back majorily on videogames, and I have a gorgeous girlfriend.

Now about the comment about not having long hair to avoid "looking like a girl".

Most men have very masculine features. Even in a dress and a wig, without makeup you can still tell it is a man.

When a man decides to grow out his own hair, he is making a statement.

I am confident, no man or woman owns me. It also defines authority to the woman, that changing your appearence isn't likely to get very far, espeically if you have spent years growing out your hair.

This is the kind of thing that attracts chicks, besides the hair.

And the longhaired look is almost 100x better than the punk emo styles. THose guys actually try to emulate women with being sensitive.

Most longhaired guys I know are very independent, and do well with girls.

I am living in BOulder and will be moving to New YOrk City within the next year, I probally have more prospects in 1 day, than afc's have in a year.

Some skinhead asked what would I do if I went bald, well I told him I would be a proud bald man.

LOL, you went to jail? That alone should be enough to make some women want you. :D Just kidding.

I have long hair now too, and the looks I get from women have increased. Some flat out approach me or blatantly make it easy for me to approach. Interestingly, it has been mostly white women, Latin women, and foreign-born Asian women. A lot the Asian-American girls don't seem to really be into the shaggy hairdo. Either way, I have it because *I* like it. You have the right idea, Fragem.

And as a final thought, I just want to add that it was jail that may have really changed your perspective. First of all it makes you go into shock, and probably loathe who and what you were before you got locked up. It makes you re-prioritize life. And also since prison life is about routine and the bare essentials, it really gives you time to strip away all the bullshyt from your life and thoughts. You also have a lot of time alone to reflect and maybe repent (not in a religious sense).

I don't recommend that anyone do something stupid to get into jail in order to clean up their head - that's ridiculous. But I still commend you for getting things straightened out, Fragem.

Well, I didn't think he looked so much like a girl as he reminded me of the guys in my oldest sisters 1974 yearbook. I was seeing horrible visions of polyester pants and shiny flowered shirts.

And like I said before...there is just something about the "I'm growing my hair long but am not there yet" look that just totally turns me off. I really do hate it. I like very short hair, a shaved head or the 80's hairband long hair...and anything else I just do not like at all on a guy. But as someone else mentioned...different women like different things. In regards to wake's face shape, though...I actually think a much shorter cut would better suit his face and improve on his looks considerably. That could be because of my personal preferences in hair, or it could be because of his facial features...I'm not really sure.
