I found interesting news article on Newyork magazine site. The article discussed about new generation-X adults who dress and live like teenagers.

Is anyone on this forum belong in this category? Are we chasing generation X women as indicated by the news article ? or Have we fallen into old trap of pursuing weird women?

I stopped dressing like I was in high school.. I am to the point now that even though I have a babyish face, no one belives I am 22.. A woman today though I was at least 28 (she was 30).

I usually wear slacks and then it depends on the weather. Blue jeans once in a blue moon, the moon has to be JUST right

I read the whole feature. Really interesting. As it turns out, my best friend (20) recently became a dad, so it'll be interesting to see what he does with the parenting role.

My guess is that the new era of parents will be prodominately generous in the amount of freedom they give their kids to make their own choices.

I loved that article, and see the "grubs" as a result of affluency. The X generation saw their parents work hard and bust their ass for the "man" to achieve superficial goals. The "grubs" value freedom over a successful career, because they know that keeping up with the "joneses" is fruitless. The indie music today is cloned from the indie music of yester-year, but we already know that music is cyclical. Funny thing they mentioned all of the bands that I like......

Well I'm here to tell you there is such a magic wand. Something that will make you almost completely irresistible to any woman you "point it" at. Something guaranteed to fill your life with love, romance, and excitement.

Interesting article!

I've been reading up on the whole adult GenX situation, and it's been quite interesting. It looks as if we're in for a major overhaul in the way the world is running, and quite frankly, I like it!

Although I don't dress in pants with the ass dragging on the ground, nor do I wear store-bought tattered jeans, I must admit that I do like what I wear because it's comfortable, and I'm passionate about it. It also doesn't look like 5hit. I'll wear ripped clothes to work if I rip them AT work. If they don't like it, they can buy me new clothes.

The only danger I see in all of this is forgetting to let your kids be kids. Let them enjoy Dora the Explorer and Bob the Builder. Shows like this is what being a kid is all about. However, I won't hold a grudge if we have a massive Barney the Dinosaur burning :D

Yea, great article. Haven't read it all yet, but it sheds some light on how my generation operates.

I definitely see the world changing for the better with my generation getting older. I think we are the first generation to grow up without the huge stick up their ass.

Just look around. In America you can see the quality of life improving as people are becoming more accepting of trying new things like beverages (wine, beer, coffee, tea) foods (sushi, exotic Asian cuisines) culture (the cafe scene is becoming more prevalent, appreciation for art is improving, people are taking more of an interest in history and such).

The way I see it you can attribute this for the most part to my generation being the first to buck convention and question just what is "normal" and "proper". We are more open to change and willing to adapt. My parents generation...not so much so.

So, yes, I do dress more like I am in my 20's than 30's. I like lots of new music. I hang out with and can relate pretty well with twentysomethings. I question conventional "wisdom" on a regular basis.

And I couldn't be happier.

This article does not describe me or anyone I know. This must be an east coast thing or something. I can't relate to any part of that article.

Dirty kicks? $300 for torn up jeans? Snowboarding? Ohhhh K.

I have seen those people here in Canada. The article really summarized the social change in this decade.

30 years old and quoting rap lyrics? Seems to me you can relate more than you think.

The city that sleeps. Sometimes.
Who cares what you wear?

I am just as likely to run into the office wearing tornup jeans and a tee (well, at least not like walmart/old navy sh!t) or a tailored suit.

We are kinda past the point of judging people exclusively by the clothes they wear. I mostly dress the way I wanna dress. That is not to say that I won't adhere to to the code if i have to (like if i know that I am going to the meeting with some bankers where everyone is wearing suits, ok, I will wear one of my nice suits.. )

I grew up on it, I used to rap when I was in my teens/early 20's but I never pursued it. Some people I used to kick it with back then are starting to bubble now. I still love the music, just because I'm older doesn't mean I have to throw that part of my life away.

I guess you're right in a way...

Which is what the article is all about!

I see some of my friends from high school and such falling into the "old person" routine, but most of them are married with families. That's a big reason that I don't really care to get into a long term relationship....it just kind of sneaks into your life without you giving it a second thought if you aren't careful.

To be honest, I was in a really good LTR when I was around 26 and I felt myself slipping in that direction. When that relationship was over I took a good look at my life and decided that I needed to get my sh!t together or I wouldn't like myself much in a few years.

The group of friends I am tightest with still do a lot of the things they started doing 10-15 years ago.

It's pretty cool cause when you stay young while you are in your 30's you can have the best of both worlds. You can play golf or smoke cigars or travel the world with people who are your age and even a little older, and at the same time you can party it up and play like you are still 23.

I have wondered lately why I still have a lot of friends who are younger. Until I read this article I hadn't considered that it might be due to the fact that there isn't really a generation gap anymore. I just thought that I wasn't destined to grow up anytime soon....lol

let me just say this. If you still wear the baggy pants hanging from your butt like you did in high school and you're an adult now, you are a loser.
Amen. Props for the quote on the Godfather.
