Hey guys, I'm new to this part of the forums, and really appreciate any advise.

Bio: I'm 22, Male, 6'0" 285lb, probably around 35% body fat content, to put it another way, I'm grossly out of shape.

I have altered my diet as of two weeks ago, and also joined a gym as of monday.

Here's the problem, I did two hours of exercise on monday, and felt fine. 30 Minutes on a treadmill, 15 minutes on a bike, 15 minutes on a stair stepping machine (not sure what it's actually called). The rest weights and machines for upper body. After I finished, I was exhausted, but felt fine.

Tuesday when I woke up, I could barely move. All my muscles hurt ALOT. I did some stretching exercises throughout the day.

So what I was wondering is, I'm still feeling alot of pain in my leg muscles, and in my shoulders.

I want to go to the gym, but how much should I push myself, should I just forget about the pain and keep going? I have a very high pain tolerance, so I can deal with it, but I don't want to make things worse then they are.

Also any advice on dealing with the pain afterwards are appreciated.

Thanks guys.

After excersing a group of muscles you should allows 48 hours for them to recover. You cant exercise same muscles every day. Thats as far as weight training goes. Lets say you working your arms and shoulders on Monday, you should do it again on Wednesday.

As far as cardio, you should be doing that every day.

In your case, since you just started, it will hurt for a week or so. The only thing to do is allow muscles to recover and do it again. Even cardio, as you using your legs. But once you get used to walking, etc, do it daily.

Go back to the gym on Wednesday. If arms and upper body still hurts, then Thirsday. Its ok to take it easy when you start.

I also wonder if you jerking off in the gym, instead of lifting and lowering with slow controlled movement, jerking like an a55 hole up and down??? Watch beautiful people lift and do the same thing.

EnigmaticMorph - you're 280lbs and out of shape bro, it's gonna hurt for a while until your body gets used to exercise. Just take it easy, don't work out if you're still sore, and it'll go away in time.. you'll get used to it.

You guys are right, I probably should slow down a little bit on this whole thing. I'm just afraid that if I stop even for a short while, I might not start again for a while.

My main concern is can I exercise even though my musceles are in pain from the previous workout?

Thanks again for the advice.

P.S.- Any tips for the severely out of shape beginners would be great.

that much cardio can make anyone ache, nevermind someone pushing 300. start slow and work your way up. if you're going to go overboard, do it by slicing entire types of food out of your diet (refined carbs, fruit juices, etc.) rather than overdoing it at the gym. you need to create sustainable incentives for yourself that reward good workouts & healthy eating and punish lapses in either one.

start digging through these forums looking for advice on losing bodyfat. there's a wealth of good stuff in here. and don't be afraid to ask specific questions.

build up your cardio slowly, and losing weight isn't completely about excercising, it's more of a 30(excercise)/70(diet)
and when i say diet i dont mean go anorexic, watch what you eat, learn about carbs/proteins/sugar/fat and find a diet that works for you.

Get lots of sleep. Whenever I'm super sore, I take glutamine. Not sure if it works or not.
