I wasn't picking a fight, you came into the thread looking to proove your point and I disagreed with it.

You automatically assume I don't lift weights or I'm not muscular, both assumptions aren't accurate.

The fact is, if you're aiming to look like that freak who died of dehydration I won't respect you. But if you just want to be aesthetically pleasing and generate some respect, go for it. That's what everyone wants to do.

And Double, I don't get into fights at clubs because I'm not going to spend the door fee just to get kicked out. People know better than to try anyway.

As far as general fitness goes, if you get too big and completely ignore other aspects of fitness flexibility is reduced, cardio vascular fitness is reduced and your immune system becomes vulnerable.

I'm not into extremes, but if it works for you, I'm not going to hold it against you and you should keep doing it. If you can fulfill your own goals then your getting satisfaction and I can appreciate that, but being insulting, arrogant and making generalisations is pathetic.

There's a differnce between disagreeing and being insultive.

Here's the whole thing, concentrated stupidity for everyones pleasures.

The classic body builder is about as attractive as a pink poodle with an afro. Every sane person would prefer to have a lab than a freak of nature.
How is this not insulting? It's like comming onto Sosuave and saying that being a DJ is (insert bad thing) and that anyone who is sane wouldn't want to be one.

Double
lol, if you think so. the best bodybuilders often have the most attractive women, the women guys like you don't even have the courage to look at

If donald trump can **** a HB, anyone can. You're pettiness doesn't serve anyone.

Perhaps, but we can still kick your ass. And we are the ones your girlfriend cheat with, we are more man than you will ever be.

Double
yeh but still we can kick your azz and the only thing you can do about is is ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun forrest ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun.
Reach
I really don't see how you could kick my ass over the internet, or in the real world. You obviously wouldn't win a mental fight. Besides anything else I wouldn't run from some puffball just because he's in a mood.

You're both stuck inside your own cliche if all you can do is go "Oww, we'll kick your ass! Man, your muscles are so ripped, I just want to slap your ass! But don't take that in a gay way. Unless that's what you like, then y'know."

Well I'm 5"10 and 12 1/2 stone or 175lbs. All I want to do is get toned, and healthy so later on in life I'm still able. I want to be like Giorgio Armani, the guys 60 something, still goes on five mile runs and has a six pack.

Out of interest, which famous men do you aspire to look like or think are good looking? I'd prefer to look like Brad Pitt that Arnold.

My post was more a rhetorical question then a question towards you, but it's all good.

I always thought arnold was a big bigger then I wanted to be. Somewhere along the lines of frank zane would be cool :)

There are long distance runners and elite distance runners.

Just watch the olympic marathon, whilst there are short and tall they pretty much all fall within the low end of weight range for height.

I don't see the point of the post anyway.

I have been lifting for 10 years or so. Before that I was a track athlete. Lifting alone helped me add 30-40 lbs (I was real skinny before 5/10 135 or so).

However running to me is really important now too. After my gains had plateaud from lifting (muscle gains not necessarilty strength gains), I focused on getting my cardio back in shape as well. It has helped tremendously with my energy.

So I may only be 5/10 and anywhere from 175-180 lbs, but that weight hasn't dropped and my cardio is good now too.

There certainly isn't anything wrong with being strong and in good cardiovascular shape as well.

This was an interesting topic to me until it started into a flame war.

Basically many people focus on one or the other. They either lift and ignore cardio or do cardio and ignore lifting.

They both are pretty important.

I have some conflicting goals in a way. I want to bench press 400 lbs oneday, but i also want to run a marathon. I am far off from both.

From Vander, Sherman, and Luciano's Human Physiology: The Mechanisms of Body Function. 9th ed. McGraw-Hill:2004

"Exercise that is of relatively low intensity but of long duration (popularly called 'aerobic exercise'), such as running and swimming, produces increases in the number of mitochindria in the fibers that are recruited in this type of activity [...] All these changes lead to an increase in the capacity for endurance activity with a minumum of fatigue. (SURPRISINGLY, FIBER DIAMETER DECREASES SLIGHTLY, AND THUS THERE IS A SMALL DECREASE IN THE MAXIMAL STRENGTH OF MUSCLES AS A RESULT OF ENDURANCE EXERCISE.)" (p 295, emphasis added.)

So StringShredder, when you say "[Runners] look that way because that's part of what makes the difference between a 2:08 marathon, and a 2:18 marathon. They deliberately allow their bodies to look that way. The training that they do isn't directly responsible for that appearance" you are wrong. No offense intended. Just sharing knowledge.

Peace.

You can't avoid the fact that if you want to be a good distance runner, and have real endurance, you need to drop the pounds. There is a cost in endurance terms that results from carrying extra muscle. The faster you get the lighter you will be. And for damn sure there is no 2:18 runner who is a big guy.

Also, don't stop your watch at lights etc.. This is a weak way of doing things. The rest you get when you stop helps the remainder of your run. You should calculate this in your final time.
It's the same for cyclists.

Running is important in being generally healthy and that's pretty simple to understand....
