A better place, a better time.
As the title says, my phone game is weeeeeeaakk. I have no problems approaching, getting numbers, escalating etc. But my phone game sucks.

There's too much of "awkward silence... we both speak at once... awkward silence..." And my intentions are misinterpreted because she can't see my facial expression. I feel like I'm just nervous and can't make the conversation flow. I don't have this problem in face to face conversations.

Anyone have any ideas that have helped you out in the past?

Cliche, but just relax and talk slow and chilled. Once she picks up ask her how she is/what shes been up to...that way she rambles (only let her do so for a little bit), you get comfortable and composed for asking her out or whatever.

I've worked as a telemarketer and a customer service (telephone) consulent. I used to have major telephone anxiety, but now its a breeze. If there is a pause, it's there cause I intended it to be there (believe me, pauses can make or brake the entire thing, its all about timing).

Personally, I think of it as a sales call where I sell myself to the person. It's not about getting the 'yes' at all costs, its about getting the 'yes' because the other person wants to, you only have to give them the reasons to do so. Talking on the phone is pretty much like talking in general except you lack the ability to apply body language which the other person can see, but don't mind that, use body language and gesticulate anyway cause it can be heard in your voice! Also, lead the conversation. If the akward silence comes up, just hijack the entire conversation and lead it where you want it to be. Never mumble. The audio quality of the telephone stinks, so speak clearly. In short:

- lead the conversation
- apply body language and facial expressions
- speak clearly
- always have the agenda of the call in the back of your head, even if the conversation drifts away. Look for clues as to were you can lead it back on track.

Now this may not work for you at all, but it does for me.
