Anyone have any solutions? I can get 11 hrs of sleep (the most ever I think for me) and still have bags under my eyes. Once I went a week of consistent bedtime, even weekends, and it didn't help too much. It helped a lot, but they were still there. I doubt it's a vitamin defficiency, I've been growing a lot.

Kankersores, well.. I've pretty much accepted them as part of life. I've noticed though when it's warmer it seems I don't get them as much. Maybe it could also be because I'm usually less stressed when it's warmer.

As far as bags, bad kidneys cause bags under your eyes. Check color of your urine, the more yellow it is, the crappier. It should be white like water, not always possible, especially if you taking protein. Yellow urine indicates your kidneys dont filter right.

If your health is otherwise alright, visit a chinese herb shop (they're everywhere) and ask for something for your eye bags, otherwise visit a doctor. Chinese been smoking herbs for 5,000 years, you never know, sometimes it helps, they have a lot of wisdom.

Thanks. My urine is more often yellow than clear. What can I do to improve kidneys? Eat more fiber?

This isn't likely a kidney problem. Bags under your eyes are usually genetic, but may be worsened by lack of sleep (not your issue), fluid retention, allergies, etc. Try reducing the salt in your diet, keep well hydrated, continue to get plenty of sleep (11 hrs is too much sleep and has been correlated with a shorter lifespan; try 7-9 hrs). Also, I've heard that placing slices of potato over your eyes (moisten the area with water first) for 10+ minutes a day helps firm up the area.

Canker sores? Are we talking about what are called apthous ulcers (canker sores) or herpes simplex (cold sores)?? See the picture below..

I used to get canker sores all the time when I would accidentally bite down on the gum line. It stopped after I had braces put it. I think an overbite made it more likely for me to bite down on the gum line.

Bags under eyes, dark circles, both or same thing?

For dark circles, sleep isn't all you need. Also need a good diet, lots of good fluids (no caffiene and minimal sugars), and plenty of excercise. Those three things will improve your health in general, which is the best way to minimise puffy/dark eyes. I had a problem with dark circles around my eyes for a couple of years. This year I've been making a big effort to improve my lot - Excercise daily, no caffiene and a better diet. My eyes are back to looking their best again.

Canker sores - See your doctor. I get them sometimes, often when I eat a lot of sugar I find! But different things cause them in different people.

Besides turning to a chinese herbologist or occupancturist, watermelon will help with kidneys. You'd pee a lot after a good big watermelon, real ones are more than a basketball size. Watermelons are nothing but water and sugar, you can eat the whole thing with no regrets. If you find real watermelons, with real big size, buy several and eat at least half a day if you can't eat the whole thing. Urine will turn water like white.

Wouldn't it be easier to just drink water?

putting the two together sounds as though you may be having sleep issues. even though you say you're getting enough sleep, you may not be getting quality sleep, esp. if you have apnea or something else that interupts sleep (most people who have apnea don't know it)

i do have crappy sleep habits but ive had dark circles under my eyes ever since i was born. the darkness never seems to fluctuate.

according to one doctor, my dark circles were a result of thin skin that allows blood vessels beneath it to be visible.

i recently visited another doctor, a dermatologist, and according to him there were tons of reasons that could cause dark circles. i don't exactly remember what he said but diet could have a lot to do with it as well. i don't have much advice on this and i'm still wandering what to do myself.

I have braces and that just seemed to make the kankersores worse. Yes mouth ulcers, not cold sores.

I don't regularly get 11 hrs. I regularly get about 7-8 depending on when I fall asleep. I used to do 6 hours, and I would feel fine. Sometimes when I stay up late to the morning, I get 6 hours, and that's actually when I feel like I got the best sleep. I don't wake up feeling too tired for a long time. Usually this happens when I sleep over someone's house.

I've looked up signs of sleep apnea before, and I didn't think I had it. http://www.dentalsleepmed.org/SelfTest.aspx I got a 5 on that test, scoring myself as high as possible.

Frequent cessation of breathing (apnea) during sleep. Your sleep partner may notice repeated silences from your side of the bed.
Choking or gasping during sleep to get air into the lungs
Loud snoring
Sudden awakenings to restart breathing
Waking up in a sweat during the night
Feeling unrefreshed in the morning after a night’s sleep
Headaches, sore throat, or dry mouth in the mornings after waking up
Daytime sleepiness, including falling asleep at inappropriate times, such as during driving or at work
Lethargy
Rapid weight gain
Memory loss and learning difficulties
Short attention span
Poor judgment
Depression
Personality changes
I actually have some of that, but the biggest signs I don't have. Sleeping over people's houses, or anywhere with other people, I've never heard complaints about me snoring or breathing loudly. I wake up in the middle of the night maybe once a month, usually when something big is about to happen the next day and I'm anxious, or when I'm going through stressful times. When I wake up, I often feel unrefreshed. Sometimes I feel sick and have a sore throat, and it goes away within two hours. I barely ever have a dry mouth waking up though, if anything I'm drooling when I wake up. I never wake up in the middle of the night and I never fall asleep in the day. No matter how hard I try, how sleepy I feel, I never fall asleep in the day. During movies I might feel tired and lay down and rest, but I never actually fall asleep.
The only times I ever fall asleep during the day is:
- When I leave town for the day, and on the way back on a boring hour long ride, having been in the car many times during the day, I usually fall asleep. It's usually a lot hotter in other cities though, that's why I think.
- When I'm coming back from a game in a comfortable bus

On long fridays with school, then doing stuff afterschool, and I'm with friends we stay awake until 1-5AM. I never fall asleep until I want to.
I never fall asleep on airplanes. (went a little over 24 hours awake, and I tried to sleep while everyone else was sleeping)

I drink at least 4 bottles of water a day. I don't exercise that much.
