So, as I posted previously (http://www.sosuave.net/forum/showthread.php?p=1848215#post1848215) I have a condition called albinism which causes a lack of melanin in the skin, eyes, and hair. It also causes severe vision problems and sensitivity to light. Very few albinos look like the dude from 'Powder' (who was not an albino, but clearly a mutant space alien). Most of us just look Scandinavian. Albinism affects roughly 1 in 17,000 people.
When i was a kid I got teased about it all the time. It also made me stand out from the rest of my family, which caused some issues. This and other things didn't do wonders for my confidence.
Excuses, excuses. On balance it's hard to really say what effect albinism has had on my game.
Pros:
- It's a talking point, innit?
- It's forced me to develop other aspects of my game. Namely, my understanding that because not many girls are into albino guys, it's my responsibility to charm my way into their pants and not feel anything when I get rejected. This has helped me develop the ability to strike up conversations with girls anywhere, at any time, on the 2% chance that it will lead to a lay.
- In Asia white skin is considered beautiful. When i lived in Vietnam and the Philippines those Asian girls were all over me. Little do they know - albinism is recessive, so it's highly unlikely any kids they'd have with me would be blonde or blue-eyed.
Cons:
- In the US, having a tan is considered attractive and being all milky and translucent isn't. Google 'albino' and you get a bunch of message boards of people talking about how they could never, ever date an albino.
- One of the vision problems is an inability to focus. The moving-eye thing makes eye contact a problem.
- Not being able to go outside for long periods of time rules out the beach and some other athletic activities.
Just thought I'd share. Have any of you ever met (or even dated!!!) an albino?
