Nice man

I lift about the same.

The only thing is - don't drop the bar at the bottom.

the video was choppy on my computer so I can't really give an opinion on the form, however the numbers say it's a good lift for your size and age. the grip strength and endurance (since I could make out you weren't using straps, bout the only thing I could see lol) are also impressive.

Could someone explain how to execute a deadlift to me? It looks like its just the same as a squat except the bar is in front of you and so you use your back more than your legs. Also it seems you are supposed to bring the bar to a complete stop on the floor between reps. Is that all there is to it?

Yup. You're basically just dragging the bar up your legs. And the bar starts on the floor each time, that's why it's called a deadlift.

Nice! one question though, how are you suppose to grip the bar for a deadlift? overgrip/undergrip or bit of both?

double overhand is standard competition grip but over/under is stronger so you can go heavier on it.

Over/under (alternate grip) is MUCH stronger. I have no idea why, but it is. Probably puts your body at some weird mechanical advantage. I couldn't hold on to 280lbs for more than 3 reps until I switched grips - now I don't even think about the grip.

Double overhand standard competition? What do you mean by that? All the WRs are set with an alternate grip ...

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

Re:

It does have to do with the mechanics. Hands are more powerful in the underhand, rathern than the overhand in most ways.

Moreover it's 4 fingers, to 1 thumb, so there's a slight imbalance if you put both hands the same way. The opposing grips lock things in place to the best of your gripping ability.

Going heavier helps to build good forearms. For me, that's the first things to go.

Someone mentioned somewhere else that they "lean" back. I'd be careful. The deadlift is a standing position, not a "lean" back position, especially at the high weights some lift. If you're lifting heavy, just getting the bar up for 5+ reps will be enough to work your back thoroughly. And if you saw the videos attached this one, then you can see what wonders come of PLing. If those guys could drop weight, they'd be ripped. Most can't get super thing, hence they guys of that size are attracted to PL...their genetic structure lends itself to being naturally big and the excess fat acts as padding, provides a strength boost, and decreases some of the distance you go on those major lifts. It isn't advised to do so, but for these guys, being scrawny wouldn't add an advantage they desire to have.

Good stuff.

The funny part is when the guy in the background gets on the bench with the twenty pound DBs.

whats next ?
Going for 350 x whatever this Friday, but I won't be taping it (I'll be doing it at a gym while I'm on vacation). I actually set a pretty sick squat PR today (for me anyway) which I taped, but I don't have time to upload/edit it right now. It's worth the wait though :D

Yea, that's typical university gym for ya. There are a few big dudes, but I very rarely see them.

How much do you bend your knees doing the deadlift?
It depends on your body style.

You should get this book: www.StartingStrength.com

It explains how to do the squat, deadlift, press, power clean, and bench press with pictures and great detail. They have it at Amazon.com too. Best $30 I ever spent. I highly recommend it.
