Hey guys, so tonight production on my first rap track was completed. It's available at this link for listening and download: http://belgianman.com/songs/36/display

Its the first track that's gonna end up on my mixtape--and my budding rap career has done a lot for me from a DJ standpoint as well. I tell girls that I'm a rapper/producer and they get an extra spark in their eye. Its like a hobby, but slightly more official, so not only do you look like a busy guy, you look like you have things going for you. Check out the link and tell me what you think.

Please no "I hate rap, its all junk" comments. If you're not a fan, just steer clear.

Beat is sick but rapping sucks.. I dont know how to describe it but it seems like you are sleepy or something. Seems like you are not interested in it when rapping. Hard to explain it but rap definitely needs work.

So the rapping needs work in terms of intensity? And it needs to be louder? Those two probably go hand in hand.

Anything else? Thanks for the compliment on the beat--as for voice quality, nothing I can do about that really. I'm using an internal microphone.

Your song has several problems

1) voice has no effects at all, no reverb, delay etc
2) timing and syncopation of the words does not match the counterpoint of the beat--you take breaths at inappropriate times. Typically, rappers take breaths on the 4 and the 8 count, it sounds like your vocal breaks occur at random times/beats that are not consistent.
3) You need to have something unique in your voice to appear marketable to record labels. There needs to be something that creates energy in your audience. As of now, you sound like the typical suburban white guy trying to rap (and I don't even know what race you are)

This is not meant as an insult at all. I only say these things because I am in the music industry and think you could do better and make $$$$

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

I think it has potential. Good instrumental but the rap was mediocore and hard to understand because the music drowns out your voice. Definitely wanna add some voice over effects to the rhymes of each line (ie. your voice recorded/played twice at the end of every line for emphasis). You see producers do this all this time and it helps makes the rhymes stand out and the overall quality sounds better. Also maybe add some generic fillers in between each line like "uh" or "what" occasionally just to help the transition.

In addition to what Duffdog said, as a rapper, I think it's best if you memorize your lyrics as opposed to reading them. I noticed a huge improvement in my music once I started doing that. It allows you to create more energy in your voice because you're not trying to concentrate on reading while staying on beat and not tripping over your words.

Not bad man. Just curious...how did you get started on rapping initially?

I've been told countless times that I look like Eminem...and while I'm not his biggest fan, I do love rap/hip-hop in general. I just have no idea how somebody starts doing it on their own.

Haha I just liked rap and found out that I have garageband on my Mac. I started using the software instruments to make beats and then I decided to rap over them. That's the whole story haha.

By the way, new track up http://belgianman.com/songs/37/display

This song is not a freestyle. I took into account the advice of some people on this board in remastering this one, so tell me if you see any improvement from the last song.

Thanks guys.
