Hey Bungo..dont know if this will help or not..

But i have quite a few friends who got married young..and a lot of them are still in school etc..makes me feel old seeing everyone get hitched..those fools dont know what theyre missing lol j/k.

Anyways ill ask some of them how they dealt with financial problems..im not sure if they were in the same boat as you but im sure they had similar obstacles to overcome..and most of them are happy today and doing quite well.

If i come up with any ideas that you or may not have thought of, ill shoot you a PM..maybe it will help.

All in all best of luck with your situation.

Later.

Didn't read all the posts, but ...

Two words: shared housing.

Get some friends together -- perhaps including your fiancee -- and rent a 4 or 5 bedroom house. You can even get someone to sleep in the basement.

Makes for cheap living away from the folks.

BUT -- make sure you check everyone out, and don't give anyone the keys until you get cash or the funds have cleared.

Best of luck!

How about getting a second job or working a lot of overtime at your current job.

This will do two things -

1) Obviously it will put more money in your pocket.

2) It will minimize the amount of time you are home - you won't see your father all that much.

The last time I lived with my parents (summertime 8 years ago) I worked 60-70 hour weeks and the only time I was home I slept.

I know exactly how you feel - my stepfather has a drinking problem and I decided a LONG time ago that I would not be a part of that household. It hasn't been easy, and I've had to make a lot of sacrifices along the way but it has been worth it.

Agreed there. Kick-as s idea. Get a second gig. It will solve both of your problems(money and spending less time at home).

Another thing- go checkout apartments.com Call around and i bet you can get a decent deal.

If you can find a cheap or free place to store a bunch of your stuff, start getting it out of the house (while your dad's not home) RIGHT NOW. Try to keep him from noticing, but get as many of your possessions, especially valuable ones, out of the house ASAP. You don't want him pulling the same bull**** twice.

Being a stupid American, I don't know the first thing about the Canadian gov't. Does the gov't up there have any agencies or departments that can force your dad to get the help he needs? I know there are addiction help hotlines in some places, you might check if they include gambling addictions. A lot of your problems could clear up if your dad gets help w/ his problems.

Good luck to you, man. When you find a girl good enough to marry, you've found something very special indeed.
