(I'm not really sure where to put this, but Tips seems to be the best place, seeing as this is more of a theory post, rather than a direct question. If a mod thinks it deserves somewhere else, feel free to move it :))

--------------------------------------------------

Over a long period of time, I've been observing the trends in popular styles of music. And one morning, as I was listening to the radio, I noticed a very worrying aspect.

A lot of popular music today promotes being an AFC!

Of course, there is the emo stuff like Linkin Park, Simple Plan, Dashboard Confessional (i can't keep typing these bands, my fingers are peeling away from the keys!), which is self explanitory really. A lot of it is showing guys are puppies and etc. And young guys assimilate these values and attitudes into their beings!

But, then, I noticed that more mainstream music was promoting it, perhaps not as blatantly, but still effectively. I can't think of examples, as I don't have any on hand that I can conveniently listen to, but there are a lot of phrases flying around which basically say "I love you, take me back."

Ergh.

After some time, I realised that a lot of the AFC'ness that exists in the world may be directly linked to the music that they listen to. Lets have a look at a few examples (because my friends are perfect examples :))

Let's first look at "Adam" (not a real name, for privacy's sake). He listens to Linkin Park, Greenday, Lost Prophets, Simple Plan, Dashboard, and etc. He is absolutely terrible with girls. He is occasionally whiney and depressed, and when we sarge with him, girls don't get attracted easily. He's fairly good looking though, so I guess that's what works for him.

Now, observe "Ben". Ben listens to 70's and 80's classics, and a lot of prog, such as The Beetles, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, King Crimson, Dire Straights, and etc. He also listens to a lot of prog metal, like Dream Theater, Ayreon (well, I won't go into that genre, but it'll be placed here), Symphony X, and etc. None of this music promotes anything to do with AFC'ness. Hell, a lot of it is just about tripping out, or fighting dragons, or whatever. Now, this guy is a legend with the girls. Me and him are like, the team. He managed to get 10 numbers in an hour at the shops once.

There are other examples that I can call on, but those are the best ones. We see example A, who reflects the values of his music, as does example B. However, only example A's music has any direct reference to dealing with girls, whereas B's music is entirely unrelated.

Which lead me to thinking, is there any music out there that promotes everything we learn here on sosuave? I can't find any.

So, where I used to listen to A's music a lot, I know listen to B's music. Obviously, it's not that simple, but, it certaintly helped me get out of the AFC ideals, as I wasn't having them forced into my head. Now, I can enjoy my music (check out anything in B's list) with passion, and this shows through when I deal with girls. Because I find prog metal/rock to be so brilliant and inspiring, I reflect that. As such, I'm always being told that I'm a "fun guy, but a bit weird ;)" I guess that comes with it, but the girls who say it mean it as a compliment, and so I work with it.

So guys who are working on their game, stop listening to emo music, or anything with any reference to AFC'ness, and I think you'll find an improvement in your game :)

Syn. I think you have great potential. And perhaps, being that you're Australian, we can even sarge together at some stage.

But I think on this one you are COMPLETELY wrong.

Is it possible that record companies have realised that most people are AFC's (think needy/emotional people) and so have mass produced music that will sell. It sells because the people relate.

Linkin Park is right up there amongst my favourite bands. Although, admittedly I had know idea how needy the lyrical content was until I went out one day, bought both there CDs and then learnt the words to all the songs as I listened over and over. It was the music and energy that drew me to them.

And I think that Linkin Park is the best band that you can use to make analogies between AFC/PUA and different types of music.

Jay Z/Linkin Park collaboration.

I'm not into hip hop, and had heard little more then Jay Z's - H to the izzo before the collaboration, as Jay Z is very rarely played on commericial radio/television in Australia, and I didn't chose to expose myself to his music.

However, I liked Jay Z/Linkin Park - Encore song. So I got the entire collaboration.

Again I had no idea of the lyrics until I'd listened to the CD many times.

Suddenly I realised how awesome Jay Zs lyrics are.

"She wants us to end, cause i f*cked her friend, she gave me one more chance, and i f*cked her again, I see my chance when she busted in, theres a draft, shut the door *****, come on in."

So I could appreciate Jay Z for his lyrics. But appreciate Linkin Park for the energy.

Listening to Emotional bands WILL not ruin your game.

I'm heavily into music, and lately have been listening to The Used and My Chemical Romance. Its the energy I love. It gets me in the best state.

You make some good points there Fresh.

I think we're thinking on parallels here. You're saying how the energy is good, where as I'm saying how the lyrics can act as subliminal messages.

If I was going to be totally honest with you, I hate Linkin Park with a passion. I mean no offense, but I dislike rap and R&b heavily, and breeding that with nu-metal never caught my tastes in a favourable way.

As I said, I'm not sure this belongs in Tips. It started as a Tip, but in the end, I think it will become a discussion on music which PUA's/DJ's listen to before going out and sarging.

By the way, if you want energetic music, download Chaos by Ayreon, and Acid Rain by Liquid Tension Experiment. Both are instrumental pieces, but I listen to them, one after the other, every morning, and I tell you what, I don't drink coffee :)

Long live Aus.

Yeah, I dont really like Linkin Park much I have there first cd suck in one of my many cd binders and decided to listen to it since I havent heard it since it came out awhile ago ( the 1st cd) and totally caught how whiney it's lyrics are. I use to listen to bands like that back in afc time and savage garden.. ( the aussies should know about them since there from there)

Now I listen to hip hop, some rock, reggae and r&b (mostly only r&b with a lady ^_~ )

I've actually been thinking along the same lines.

Some classic lyrics:

"I can't live if living is without you"

"All by myself..."

"you're the only one...."

A ton of classic lyrics are written along the lines of AFC/Needy/In Love behavior.
