Cali is definitely the coolest place to be for an Irishman, trust me. Frisco and the bay area is the best place to be in California, San Diego next... but avoid Los Angeles. If you want to live cheaper you're going to have to move inwards from the coast. Boston is also a good city. I also really like Phoenix, but not during the summer.

jobs go to craigslist.com or monster.com, see what you can find.

And will the funky Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish Farmers be driving their horse buggys down to represent your state?

Tell her a little about yourself, but not too much. Maintain some mystery. Give her something to think about and wonder about when she's at home.

I always wanted to visit California but it is too damn expensive. Up here in NE PA I could get a 2 bedroom apartment for $400 a month or a house at less then $20,000

Houses are THAT cheap there?? Shows me what a naive San Diegan I am when I've never seen a house under 200,000 dollars in person (except for trips to New Mexico and New York). Dude, I'm going up there and buying rental properties.

Yeah could someone give me info on a working visa?

Is my only chance to get there to apply for the greencard and keep my fingers crossed?

Getting to the US is easy, but the green card (perm res work auth) is much harder. I think you need a sponsor of some sort - family, spouse, or employer.

And btw, to correct a common fallacy about immigration, if a US citizen gets married abroad, he must still complete the perm resident paperwork and waiting period of months-years. He can't just get off the plane with a new bride. INS will send her back to her country to wait for the paperwork to clear. If anyone from the US ever gets married abroad, don't tell immigration about it. Say that she is here on a 6-month visitor's/tourist visa. Then after you are back home, file the paperwork.

INS treats everyone like they are a Cuban boat-refugee. It has been my experience with INS that our rules serve to keep out intelligent and skilled people who might contribute to this country.

At this point you probably have a woman (or multiple women) chasing you around, calling you all the time, wanting to be with you. So let's talk about how to KEEP a woman interested in you once you have her. This is BIG! There is nothing worse than getting dumped by a woman that you really, really like.

here in italy, it's even worse... where i live (it's not the best part of the city), a 1000 square foot apartment will cost you around 400,000-500,000$...

If your a student, then you can get a J1 visa to work there for about 6 months tops. i did it a few summers back, worked in delawhere? was good craic, then went round travelling, have to say cali was my favourite place, but also liked chicago and boston.

If your not a student, then good luck getting a visa, i'm not condoning it, but your best bet is to work illegally, I met a girl from my school who had just been doing that for the past year or so in an irish bar. there is plently of work in them, and construction etc i imagine. A lot of irish and brits are illegal over there, but I heard recently about 2 irish alds who got caught and sent to prisosn since 9/11.

If i was you I would consider canada, you can get a 1 year work visa for their through bunac.com and you don't have to be a student, also why not try australia or new zealend?

I plan to do a year in canada and australia at soem point in the future, and if i like them maybe emmigrate seeing as i will have the points to do so.

you probably like the US more, because the media basically teaches us to do so, every day we watch programs about the american dream way of life....saying that though, it still is a lot of fun.

I only went to canada for about 3 days, I went to toronto, which is meant to be the most americanised city, and I really liked it. and since then, I really want to go back to canada, maybe somewhere like vancouver island, I like the look of those open spaces.

I'm not Irish myself, but all 4 of my grandparents where born there and i still have a lot of relatives over there. There is a large irish community in birmingham and theyre actually turning part of the city into an official irish quarter right now. The word craic is pretty common over hear nowadays, even my indian workmate said to me the other day how some pub was good craic.

I'm more of a 'plastic paddy' someone born in england who claims to be irish. lol :D

I've eaten got a photo of me somewhere when I was 2 sitting in the sam maguire cup!
