I don't agree with the DJ mantra "imitation is suicide"

I've gotten very far by modeling my game after men, be it in the media or in my life, that had traits that I wanted. It's like I've taken the BEST of every person that I've admired and adopted it as my own trait.

For example, I was getting bored and slacking off at my job a little. So this new guy shows up and he is amazing. He works more than anyone else and is very good that you wouldn't even know he's new. This revitalized me. Every time I didn't want to give it my best from then on, I would go.. If I was that new guy how would I handle this situation"

All great athletes do it. Kobe Bryant modeled his game after Michael Jordan. Shaq modeled his game after Wilt Chamberlain. And now you see the Lebrons who model their game off of Kobe and Jordan.

I believe modeling your game after those that are at the highest level of it is not only a good thing, but something I have used in many aspects of my life to acheive success.

whenever I am in a potentially funny or crazy situation I always ask myself;

"What would Tucker Max do?"

As such, Tucker has sort of become a persona inside of me that comes out whenever I ask myself that question.

I agree with this and almost made a thread about this in the tips forum a few weeks ago.

Yeah, it's great to sit on SoSuave and read all the great advice on here. It's even better to get out in real life and apply it so that you can learn from experience. But it is a great idea to have a role model.

Mine was a guy I used to work with, a smooth ass black dude named Cory. When I was interning with a company in college, he was one of my supervisors. He and I would go out and game college-aged girls, and the crazy thing is he was 32 or 33 at the time. I was 21. He was just so cool and laid back that all the younger girls accepted him and wanted to be around him.

The crazy thing is, a lot of the stuff he did probably goes against what is taught on here. He was just cool, laid back and easy to get along with. He dressed well and kept in shape. Girls of all ages liked him a lot.

the point is to eventually OWN whatever it is you're doing. you can model someone to get a sense of direction and that's ok. your ultimate goal though should be to internalize the behaviors and thought patterns that work for you

there are guys who peacock and do magic tricks in the middle of the club because that's what Mystery does and Mystery's their role model. their success is marginal because those tactics are not congruent with their identity. without that congruence, you're just an empty shell who can't act dynamically
