I've been trying to work this out for myself but my mind boggles.

If I were wanting to lose fat and gain power, while training in martial arts, what would my diet and exercise need to be like?

I was thinking on training two nights a week high intensity martial arts and jogging at a low intensity to burn fat on the other days.

Diet would be high in protein, with carbs in the morning and before/after training only.

I'm 160lbs at the moment with 12-15% body fat. My stature isn't a big issue with me, as long as I don't get much smaller.

Are you training to compete? Which martial art?

Here is a thread I started about carbs for fighters, but did not get much of a response.
http://www.sosuave.net/forum/showthread.php?t=142115

I've been training to fight for five months now, the first month was two nights a week, then it went to four, this month I started five training sessions a week - bjj grappling and kickboxing. I have stayed the same weight, about 160 like you, but now my arms and chest are a lot bigger and my pants are falling off me. The two girls I date both compliment me a lot and describe me as "cut."

My own diet could use some improvement, but is not so bad. I eat a lot of salmon; I buy boxes of frozen fillets at Sam's and cook them in a toaster over. I will have a protein shake maybe once a day with a meal, but by no means do I consume shakes or raw eggs like body builder guys. I try to eat vegetables, fruit, yogurt, walnuts, peanut butter with ground flax and honey, and avoid fried foods and typical fast food. Tito Ortiz says he eats anything except fast food and sugary soda. Other fighters are more disciplined. I will probably not be fighting until the fall, but I may try the Gracie diet or something like it: http://gracieseminars.com/GracieDiet.htm

I bet your training twice as hard now that its for a fight too Bible :p. By the way, threw up for the first time in years after todays training, stayed up all night doing a uni assignment then did an 8 hour shift + MT without eating much, bad idea.

For the first couple of weeks after I started my mma class, afterwards I would go outside and puke quietly in the bushes.

Most of the guys I train with have a fight in two weeks, and it is a hard workout to just keep pace with them and give them a decent sparring and grappling partner.
