Hey what style have you studied anyways? How long have you been studying? How intense have you been training? Im asking because, I know some people that think like this and they even enter amatuer(spelling) matches, for some "fight club" wanna be places. Long story short, they get their ass kicked cause 1) they thought they were bad asses and thought their muscles would beat everyone and 2) They had barely any experience in fighting. I myself have taken 5 years of martial arts and have been in boxing for about 1 year now. You should probably try something like boxing first and if you can handle that then try for something like UFC fighting I guess.

I lift weight and train myself in boxing. I know jab, hook, and straight. The three are my best. I could PROBABLY knock you out. But I'll go as far as saying I can get real ****y and in truth I know I am pathetic.

That's about it, beside some street fighting experience.

Saine, listen to me, I know what I'm talking about.

I compete in MMA. Find out where the events are in your state and go to them, you'll find out there are many fight teams out there in your area. Here in Indiana, you have to do some looking, but theyre out there.

A lot of MMA fighters have full-time jobs along with their fight careers and as unbeliveable as this sounds, you can get away with working out 3 times a week for a couple of hours a day just to get your foot in the door and start competing at small events which that's where you should start at in the first place.

Also, if you want to get booked in any fights, go to mma.tv and look up a guy named integratedcamp. He'll help you out. He's even sent a few fighters overseas to Japan.

and drop that "I only train in striking" crap... if you do that you will get owned by a yellow belt jujutsu-ka... you need MIXED MARTIAL ARTS training... you can specialize in striking or grappling but you must be well versed in both to survive.
Since I said that I only train in striking I think this was aimed at me. I never said I wanted to compete i any MMA competiton, so why are you telling me this? Anyway, I did Judo for 6 years so the idea of grappling isnt really that incompatibal with the way I fight.

So you want me to take on people like Tito Ortiz and Gracies? Nah, I think I'll stick with the first level.

I started Judo because I sucked at field hockey. I really liked it, I did it for 6 years, in the beginning without dedication, later on I went 6 times a week. I quit because I just didnt like it that much after some time due to its redundant set of rules. Then I switched to Shotokan. After 2 years Shotokan I fell in love with Kyokushinkai and have been doing that ever since.

Judo is pretty good for getting a basic idea of what grappling is, but if you want to compete in MMA its not really gonna give a a complete grappling arsenal. In Judo there are no takedowns that make your opponant land on the front side of his body. Most takedowns or throws require you to grab his jacket, which most people dont wear in MMA. Judo has no leg chocks. Other than that it does teach good chocks and armbars.

Sexy armbars... -drools-...

Otherwise, I see, judo isn't too good.

Apparently I'm learning boxing. Let's see, what to add to my arsenal.

Good call.

...

Secondly,

Fighting in the UFC in the Featherweight division is impossible because it doesn't exist. The UFC has heavyweight, light heavyweight, middleweight, welterweight, and lightweight. No featherweight, sorry.

Name one superheavyweight or featherweight fight recently in the UFC and I'll eat my words. Most featherweight stuff takes place in smaller shows like Shooto.

Making a living in MMA (or most combat sports) is easier if you're bigger, and always remember that. Heavyweight (or superheavyweight) and light heavyweight fighters, generally speaking, generate the most interest and therefore get paid more. Look at Bob Sapp. He's a big skilless oaf and yet he generates tons of PPV buys because he's HUGE.

Generally, lighter fighters are only paid major attention to by hardcore MMA fans, not your mainstream audience. Same is true with boxing, for example.

Do you know who the heavyweight champion of boxing is?
How about the bantamweight? Flyweight?

Chances are tons more people know who Lennox Lewis is.

Anyway, that's my two cents. I'm starting fighting MMA (I'm a boxing expert and I'm picking up a little wrestling/bjj), and I'm making a calculated financial decision by gaining weight probably until I weigh 220-225 lbs. I weighed 185 a little over a year ago, and now I'm up to 215. Good progress.

Not too shabby. Well I'm also a boxer, recently got into grappling but can't find any school in NY or NC.

Btw for all I know, I know a lot of heavyweight champion, it's just that it's about getting your name out. You could be in lightweight, if you just keep "getting your name out by calling some other names", you get attention that way too.

Start in local events. Theyre all over the U.S. Dont worry about the UFC until later.

Good God.

Listen to Nightwing (nice to see you posting again, bro - how's the training going?)

The FIRST thing you need to do is to learn how to fight. You said you "train" in boxing but you only know a few basic punches: jab, cross and hook (I think that's what you said). Go to a boxing gym. Learn how to grapple. Join your school's wrestling team - it's FREE and a great way to learn. Use boxing and wrestling as a base and then move on from there if you decide you still want to pursue MMA (most people have an aversion to getting punched in the face a couple hundred times).

As a sergeant I know once told me, focus on the 25 meter target first. Don't get ahead of yourself with thoughts of competing in UFC, Pride, K-1, Shooto, etc.. Focus on what you have to do, right now, to get there.

By the way: K-1 has more than one weight class. There is K-1 which has Ernesto Hoost, Sapp, Aerts, Sefo, Roufus etc.. and then there is K-1 MAX, which features the lighter guys. Much more exciting in my opinion.. the fighters are so much more skilled. Duane 'Bang' Ludwig recently participated in a K-1 MAX tournament and lost in the semis. Should be able to find some DVDs on eBay.

Oh, and one more thing, Saine: stop spending so much time on this site. You average 33 posts per day. This time can better be spent hitting the heavy bag, running and conditioning.

Lol I was JUST going to post that lol

Okay, now since you say you've been training YOURSELF do you mean you have been studying it by yourself or have you had someone train you?
