STRAHAN OWES WIFE $15.3M
By JEANNE MacINTOSH
January 12, 2007 -- A judge sacked Michael Strahan’s bank account Friday, ordering the Giants defensive end to pay his ex-wife Jean a whopping $15.3 million, plus hundreds of thousands in child support, as part of their divorce, according to a decision released today.
Essex County New Jersey Judge James Convery blasted Strahan in the written ruling, saying that the arguments he gave to get out of paying up lacked "any credible evidence."
Convery held the gapped toothed-grid great to the letter of a pre nuptial agreement he signed with his wife, in which he agreed to pay her 20-percent of his assets for each year of their marriage and give her half of his total assets.
Strahan tried to argue that he wasn’t responsible for the 20 percent because she failed to ask for it every year. But the judge said, "The plaintiff is not credible in his claim that the defendant never asked for her separate funds."
Jean Strahan had originally been seeking roughly $14 million, but the judge gave her back interest on the 20 percent annuity, raising the expected payout by $1.25 to over $15 million.
The Giant will also have to pay $18,000 per month in child support, and will have to hand over a $311,150 lump sum for support dating back to August 2005.
Reps for the couple could not immediately be reached for comment.
Let's do the math, 18 times 12 that's $216,000 a yr. TAX FREE!!! Isn't 216,000 in that CEO realm of income? It doesn't take $216,000 a yr to raise a child. How do the courts justify ordering $18,000 child support on top of a 15 million dollar divorce settlement? Under normal circumstances this would be robbery and extortion. If it's about the kids quality of life why wasn't Strahan given custody of the kids?
I have to ask these questions. Who did the former Mrs. Strahan tackle? Who did she sack? What plays did she memorize? At night did the former Mrs. Strahan review tape with Mike to see the holes in the Eagles offensive line? When it comes to celebrities, these divorce settlements are asburd and opression. Women are being awarded for basically doing their wifely duties. And at that level it's fair to say that these women aren't even cooking and cleaning. This is a travesty and it needs to stop. So much for women being "equal" and "independent."
