Went to a local play last night to support some friends (director, musical director, etc.).
At the entrance was a makeshift open bar...basically, wine, cheese, etc....and behind this makeshift bar was a CUTE girl...basically greeting people and handing out wine. She reminded me of Avril Lavigne.
I was the only person there her age, and easily the coolest...hahaha.
As I was there a bit early (yes, I went by myself)...I hitted her up. We got chatting...great personality...sarcastic...funny...great body...flirty...all was actually going pretty cool. Normally at these events, the person behind the bar is just a volunteer...but...during convo, she revealed she bartends at a restaurant in Venice...did not care too much...until my head started getting involved.
In between, she was greeting people, handing out wine...or I'd say hi to people who I knew who were showing up, etc,
As I am WAYYYYYYY out of practice...my mind started messing with me.
I asked her name, to which she replied with a name I had NEVER heard before...I was actually thrown off a bit by her name, that I forgot to give her mine...haha
All this happened before the doors even opened...sorta in the outside lobby area...I'd say 15 minutes of chat total.
After some brief chat with some acquaintances I had not seen in a while...and realizing that I had not given her my name...I turned around and introduced myself to her.
To which her reply was..."oh....yeah....okay...ummm...well..........'ya know.."
Huh?
I guess I am used to the standard "nice to meet you"...or variations of the same...
In the last 20 years...not once have I had that reaction when introducing myself...I had NO idea what it meant...and being majorly out of practice, it threw me off.
I did not react to it...I just let pass by me.
And then having bartended myself...in a split second it hit me...
"uh oh...
this girl is a bartender BECAUSE she is friendly, talkative, flirty, fun, and attractive...and "I" am now THAT guy...the typical guy who comes to a place...and hits up the cute bartender as he came alone ...and SHE is basically doing her job...
YIKES!
Those thoughts...along with how she reacted to me introducing myself...put me in a "oooooooooooo...there is no way I am # closing with this girl...not even gonna bother.."
I knew I was going to see her again AFTER the play when it is all over and everyone is hanging out socializing...and maybe if I were in a better headspace...I would have come up with some sort of strategy...buuuuuuuuuuuuuut...
On top of her reaction...I started making excuses...the fact the she is a bartender getting paid to socialize...the fact that she is leaving in 2 weeks for the entire summer (2 months) so she can travel...so quite honestly...I just did not bother.
Of course...
AFTER I got home...
I started coming up with a game plan of what I "should" have done...and of course, regretting not going for her # anyway....
Oh well.
