Hey guys, I was curious, what is your opinion of the 'Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus' books? I've read the original, plus another in the series called 'Mars and Venus on a date'.

In my opinion there was some reasonable advice, such as women like it when a man listens to her, but hate it when he tries to give her advice or to 'fix' her problem. But overall I think there are far too many bits of info to remember, and I think if you're with a girl and trying to think of all those bits of advice, it'll just mess your head up and you won't be able to concentrate on having a good time with the girl.

So what are your opinions of this book? AFC or ok???

It's LTR advice, not dating advice.

The gist of the book is that women don't say what they mean and have illogical emotions (duh). So when a woman says, "Do you want to go to a movie," she is *not* asking about your feelings toward a movie, as the words indicate to a male. She is actually saying, "I want to go to a movie, but I don't want to say that unless you want to go, too, so please take the lead and take us to a movie."

You should never tell a woman to "get over it." They hate that. You are supposed to let them be irrational, or else you are "invalidating their emotions."

Women score LTR men on a point system where every little thing is one point. So slaving your life away at a job to support her is worth one point only, like taking out the trash or noticing when she has a new hairdo. Many men think working hard at their job is enough to make a wife happy, but it is not.

I would suggest flipping through the book at the bookstore to learn some ********, but that's all. The spin-offs and sequels to the book are not worth much, imo.

I just checked out that link you gave us. OMG well the guy has balls to go about claiming to have that title. If any of us gets on any discussion program audience that he's in GIVE HIM HELL on it ;)

I'd actually quite like to read his books to judge whether he's got his game together or not. Cos I'm dying to add AFC to is growing list of qualifications.

Trust me, I had to read this crap for a psych class at UNR and I ran the teacher up the flag pole for giving even a word of legitimacy about this feminized, patronization literature that passes for psychology.

This book is chick-crack for the Oprah-Dr. Phil-Sex and the City crowd, and the fact that any guy with an ounce of testosterone in his bloodstream would even raise an eybrow over it is a testament to how pre-whipped men have become.

It reads like a handbook on how men can better supplicate and identify with women because they're 'different' and how a guy can 'fix' himself for her while stressing a woman be patient with him while he does.

It's a manual for how to be a better AFC.

This so-called "Doctor" is giving relationship advice and he's been divorced three times? That's like Helen Keller telling someone to read the fine print. Ubber quack.

I've read excerpts from the first book...and from what I read of those I saw some pretty good tips on helping men and women understand how the opposite sex communicates. I'm sure there is also probably plenty of crap in the books as well. If you want to read a book...read it...take what you like and what makes sense to you and leave the rest. That's the best way to approach any kind of book like that.

Great quote Karma , not only has he been married three times, but once he was married to another relationship guru, Barbara DeAngelis, who has been married FIVE times.

Her excuse in the book: "Hey, I've been through it all and NOW I know what a good relationship looks like."

Sure Babs, you keep telling yourself that. I'm sure divorce six is pending.

Tell her a little about yourself, but not too much. Maintain some mystery. Give her something to think about and wonder about when she's at home.

Again...I said I have only read a few excerpts from the first book regarding communication...and his take on how men and women communicate is spot on. I ALSO said I haven't read the books and can't say what I think of the rest of what he has to say.

How on earth you turned what I said in to me approving of everything he writes is beyond me. Try listening to what people say and using LOGIC to respond for once. It will work out much better for you...

I read Love Smart and wasn't that impressed. It was basically re-hashing things that any level-headed person should know in about *qualifying* that significant other.

He also gives some dating etiquette tips that are all over the Internet. Nothing new at all. I didn't learn a single thing from that book, but to someone looking for some good info new or back to the dating scene would find it useful.

I saw that Dr Phil. I wanted to read it just to see what he has to say.

But I can't imagine it gelling with alot of what we really know.

And Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus has been on my hard drive forever but never looked at it or listened to it.

Reminded of a rap lyric I wanted to write about it though

"Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, come on BIOTCH now SUCK my PENIS!

it's garbage. title should read:

"how to pu$$y-whip your man"

I recommend you get a copy of mickey royal's "the pimp game"

At this point you probably have a woman (or multiple women) chasing you around, calling you all the time, wanting to be with you. So let's talk about how to KEEP a woman interested in you once you have her. This is BIG! There is nothing worse than getting dumped by a woman that you really, really like.

Seems John Gray may have spent some time in the manosphere lately. The gf brought this to my attention this morning. I don't watch this sh!t any other day and a warning the 2 muppet hosts visible uneasiness at the content is excruciating to watch but it's worth a look as John Gray appears to be if nothing else half unplugged now.

There I fixed it for you. Republicans think Rush Limbaugh is spot on. Liberals think Rachael Maddow is spot on. Depends on which team you're on doesn't it?

Hahaha i'm not sure what this guy wrote in his book 10 years ago but that interview was amazing. The hosts didn't enjoy a single word that was coming out of his mouth!
