I enjoyed the movie because I'm a huge fan of the Max Payne video games (plus, i'm a huge fan of crime dramas).
I can understand how people would've gotten lost with the plot but if you really know the plots and characters from both video games, you'd appreciate the movie plot. You see it's very difficult to condense stories from 2 full video games into hour and a half long movie.
The action sequences were very poetic and amazing. They used just the right amount of bullet time slow motion special effects. They stayed consistent with the video games' environment for most of the movie. If you enjoy sweet fight scenes, you'll appreciate the movie.
Acting was pretty good too. Mark Wahlberg portrays Max Payne very well because Wahlberg has this badass vibe to him. And we all know how much of a badass he was in The Departed. Mila Kunis was alright as Mona Sax. She could've been better though. But still pretty hot to see a totally smoking babe with a submaching gun.
And Ludacris...well I was surprised to find that he was a pretty good actor portraying Burvara. He didn't have much screen time which is good because lot of skeptics would've hammered the movie because of that. I think if they make a sequel, they should utilize him more though.
Speaking of sequels, don't forget to stay after the credits. There is a scene at the end that suggets a sequel. I didn't stay after the credits but I read about it and wasn't surprised because the way the movie plays out at the end (before the credits) hints at a possiblity of a sequel.
Good movie, overall. I'll say it again, if you haven't played Max Payne or aren't familiar with it, don't go in expecting a superb storyline. Because you'll only walk out with having watched some cool action sequences.
