Those should get you started.
are you serious?
damnit... I've baited myself into seriously answering this thread.
Look. the CORRECT answer is that you find what you love to do. If what you love to do happens to be something on the internet, than GREAT. if not, that's fine.
when people say they want to work on the internet what they are really implying is that they want to work from home and by that they meant hey want to make moeny without doing ****.
The yellow kid once said that once people get over the notion that you can do get somethig for nothing, the world would be a lot better place and swinders like him (the yellow kid was the greatest con artist in american history) would be put out of business. they pray on people who want something for nothing.
people who pitch you these "great ideas" are selling you the same thing. they know deep down you get off on the idea of sitting at home, working a couple of hours a week and making money that people put in years and long hours to get, while living a lifestyle of luxury.
To thoroughy and legitly answer your original quesiotn, there are tons of things you can do as an online business. But you have to ask yourself what do you want to do.
I've started, ran and sold an online business, an online computer company years ago that affords me to live like I do now. to the person who says don't play poker full time, I spend about 80% of my time now playing the horses and do quite well. But again.. that comes from years of practice and painstaking hours put in honing my skills. not something you can do by picking up a book (or 5) and thinking you can outsmart everyone else. lots of money lost, lots of hard knock lessons to be learned, but if your mind it set to do anything you can do it, don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. the question isn't can you do it, it's how bad do you want it and what are you willing to sacrifice to get it.
You have to become an expert in your field. I wasn't so much an expert in how to run a computer company..
I know computers like the back of my hand, i'm a tech by trade, but I became an expert on how to sell things online. That's when the original company I had grew to the point where I was able to sell it, at least my share in it.
I've become an expert on horse racing. bloodlines, who certain tracks play, jockies tendices, horse confirmation, trainers and how they think for the most part.. I generally know more about the up comign race than the next bettor. generally. and I'm able to make a profit becuase of it.
do what you love. do you know how many pepole told me I was a stupid **** for wanting to leave my company and bet on horses for a living? If you want to do something bad enough you will figure out a way to get it done. I love horse racing enough to where I was willing to put in the work to make it happen.
i wanted my first company to succeed so bad I went 3 and a half years without going on a date or having a social life whatsoever. It was worth it to me in the long run. Most people want but don't want to give up anything nor really want to put in any real work.
I've gotten back into (regular) business and I own a web development firm that might very well end up being more successful than my first company if the first year is any indication, and I am starting a niche based social network that i'm dumping a ton of my own personal funds into, but It's for an idea I wholeheartly believe in and I believe in myself. You only live once. I have another idea that I toyed around with, and I'm quite sure it would work, I even bought the domain name for it just in case, but I don't have the time to devote to make it and my social network and my horse racing and my future marriage a success so it's on the backburner for now.
my point is.. Find what you like and treat it like a REAL business. not a get rich quick or how to make money online scam. the money is out there.
Like I said, I own a web development firm. I have 6 employees and every last one of them works from home in various parts of the country. There are legit jobs for people who want to work from home. if you are willing to work and put some time in looking.
To Synergies point (my mom's company is named synergy marketing btw), there are different types of online web based business models you have the ecommerce model (amazon, etc). then you have the marketing angle. the trick is to get as many people on your site and then when you have x amounts of visitors, you have different ways to make money.
You can set up a web ring and install google adsense on the sites, and every time someone clicks on your ads, you get paid. This works. but for you to make any real money you need to be at 90-100k page views a month. But I know people who make well over 100k a year doing this whci hisn't bad.
sitepointforums.com is hands down the best internet marketing forum on the web. I cut my teeth there years ago and learned alot of how internet marketing works and how to make money using it.
Also with that page views this is what I'm diong with my social network, take those page views and put together an avertising package to revelant compaines. For instance, mine is going to be about horse racing. Say we get to the point where we have 5,000 members and we are getting 300k-400k page views a month. I can take that package then go to say, bloodhorse.com and say hey, you want to market on our site, here is the amount of people we are bringing in. Stud farms, Thoroughbred magzines, race tracks, The daily racing forum, etc.
my plan is a hell of alot more extensive than that but you get the drift.
I work from home and I have done so since I sold my first company in 2005. while I am my own boss, I didn't get where I am today by not working my ass off. I generally get up at 5:30 every morning and I am working on one thing or the other until about 10 at night, usually 6 days a week, 5 days a week durning the winter as football is on.
There are days when I dont' want to work or somethig comes up and I will say fvck it. I'm taking the day off. I can do that. but I don't do it often.
all this while working out 6 days a week, reading everyday, making a fiancee happy, playing with a 2 year old son and having a resemblance of a social life. On an avg week I work about 70-80 hours a week. But I would not have it any other way. it's how i'm wired. go hard or go home.
While not disclosing finances, I do very well for myself and there isn't anything I really want that I don't have. I take that back. There is one thing I want.. A house in malibu, that I set for my goal, and truth be told if I wanted to move to malibu tomorrow I could but it would not be the particular house I wanted and it would cause too much financial strain. But that's my new goal. I will own a house on pacific coast highway by the time i'm 30. And not only will I own it, I"m paying for it in cash.
Goals aren't supposed to be easy to get. if they were easy, they wouldn't be goals. I just have to roll up my sleeves and work. I've learned when I do that and don't question or limit myself I can do anything I put my mind to.
what i'm saying is.. be prepared to roll up your sleaves and do some real work. you can throw the concept of 9-5 out the window. you work when work needs to be done.
I'll say this to add and i'll be done to tie in once and for all the "does money matter" arguement when it comes to women becuase I've talked about alot of stuff above.
I've said this until I'm blue in the face but no one will lisen nor wants to.
It's not the money that matters, but people who are successful in life, genearlly have traits that people who are NOT successful do not have.
If you can't tell by my post, I'm extremely sure of myself. This comes off in real life as well. Borderline arrogant. I probably am arrogant by defination. This is not an act or a face. In short, I am sure of myself beuause I have a reason TO be sure of myself. I'm sure I can do anything I put my mind to becuase so far, well, I've done everything I put my mind to and wanted to do. Nothing Breads confidence like accomplishment.
Set goals and hit them, and they will do more for your game with women than any site, lay guide or wardrobe can possibly do. Trust me.
Successful people are hard workers. Successful people are ambitous. Successful people, even AFC successful people, can't devote all their time to "chasing women" beucase they are busy BEING SUCCESSFUL. Successful people know they are a catch, becuase they have done things that the avg person has not done nor will do. They have made it through the traps of life and come out ahead. Successful people are generaly passionate about something in life. I can think of a couple of times that I 've gotten laid, and I"m not making this up, I'd be on a date and we'd talk about what we want to do, and i'd start talking about my goals with horse racing and what my cheif aim in life is and they can see in my eyes I was dead fuvcking serious. I had one woman tell me point blank I wasn't planning on doing anything with you until we started talking about our goals and than you became alot more interesting of a person, and i was interested in seeing how you were in bed.
Anyway I"m long winded.
find what you love
work your ass off
go hard or go home
have no regrets
work hard and play later, or play hard or pay later. your choice.
