I don't normally date girls from my work but I have a lunch date with one tomorrow and I'm looking for some tips. Here is some background:

- I've dealt with her on work issues from time to time but she's not really a co-worker - she's in a different department, on a different floor, and it's a big company. I hadn't spoken to her in a while but I saw her at the office Christmas party earlier this week, approached her, chatted with her with a bit of flirtation involved and as she was leaving I suggested we go for lunch sometime. She said yes, I contacted her yesterday and set up the date.

- One hitch is that she may have a boyfriend. I talked to a friend who works with her and he told me that "she's seeing someone, but it's not serious". I guess I'll find out how serious it is soon. I half expect she will drop the "my boyfriend and I.." line into the conversation somewhere as women often do. In which case, I'll just move on. However, if she doesn't bring it up, should I ask if she is single? Or just steer clear of that subject for now?

- On the date itself, I don't think it's a good idea to kino to much or be too sexually suggestive because it's during work hours there is a bit of a professional aspect to this. I'm thinking the best course of action is to stick to light flirtation and try to get the personal phone number to set up an evening date later. Thoughts?

Don't bring up her bf
stay away fro relationship concept, but tell her you are talking to few chicks
be interesting
Don't sit opposite at lunch tables, sit next to each other like in the bar for some kino

Thanks. I was also wondering, in terms of convo, if work topics come up, any good ways to steer this to more personal/flirtatious banter? For example, at the party she described a time-consuming project she was working on as her "second lover". So I said "so who's you're first"? Not the best line but that's all I could come up with (she just smiled and said she was just joking). I could play on that theme tomorrow with a "so how's your second lover doing"? Or something like that. Any ideas?

Okay, same problem.

This lady at work is old enough to be my mom. And I quit a long time ago to pursue my studies. It was an office job. She has an LTR boyfriend.

She invited me out to lunch, I'm a bit intimidated and it can go either way. We'll see.

My suggestion would be go with a plan
Run her into emotions that you want her to be in
Like Some jokes
Some excitement
and some interesting conversation
You lead the conversation, don't let her lead.

Well, the date went pretty well, thanks for the tips. Convo flowed freely, lots of jokes. Light flirtation, could have done better but oh well. Number closed, but man that bit was awkward though. I had planned to get her number on the date but I guess I procrastinated and ended up asking for it on the elevator going back to work. She didn't hear me at first, then I started stammering a bit. Anyway, I did get it so now I can contact her after work hours. Plan to call her sometime mid-next week and set up an evening date. She didn't bring up the "boyfriend" at all so I guess that's good too.

One subtle ways of checking for boyfriends is to ask how was her weekend. If she says “We…”, you’ll know. “We” is always chick shorthand for “My boyfriend and I…” It’s funny when they don’t even tell you who “we” is. While it’s theoretically possible to hang out with friends or family on the weekend, single chicks will say “I…” Also, don’t worry too much about boyfriends. Girls will lie about having a boyfriend when they don't want you, and boyfriends will mysteriously disappear when they do.

That's some good advice. I'll definitely ask her about her weekend.
