I have had this problem, well as long as I can remember. I have always felt this way. I don't know if have even ever felt what it's like to have high confidence. I realize that this is the root of many of my issues and its crucial to me that I fix it. I used mentally bash myself trying to find why until one I just got tired of it. I don't care why, I just want to know how to fix it. I'm talking genuine, real, core, lasting confidence and self esteem and not some temporary "high". How can I get my confidence/esteem higher?

Hey, you are only 18, it is a long road ahead of you. To get confidence you need achievement and experience! Start to better yourself physically and intellectually, face your fears and challenge yourself.

Where in the world do you live? What are your career aspirations? What does a typical day look like for you? What are your hobbies?

Confidence derives from success, bro.

Some things you can do to maintain ever-lasting confidence:

1) Deep, controlled breaths
2) Learn to dance well, every man henceforth shall learn to dance well
3) Compete and win, start on lower skill level, keep bringing the skill level up
4) Face your fears, get into a fight
5) Be comfortable with your hobbies

6) And finally, Be aware of your inner demons, everyone has them, they tell you things like you are too short, you aren't good looking, you aren't buff, etc, next time you hear your inner demons, get excited. You are aware of them, don't ignore them, embrace them, and then smile in their faces for being so desperate to screw you over. Smile and obliterate them.

self-love is great! In the sense that you take care of yourself, you gotta reflect that because people judge you superficially most of the time. The funny thing I ve noticed is that the better I get the more people start to like me, but at the same time even higher number of other folks begin to hate on me.

make sure to give yourself credit internally for all the awesome stuff you do

not by seeking to validate yourself externally by bragging or seeking recognition

look back at your past accomplishments and use them to feel good about yourself

getting more confidence is not easy, it will not happen overnight. but it is something you can work on in small steps like any other skill.

You probably already have confidence in certain areas of your life. You probably have a few skills that you excel in. Give yourself props for that.

But there are some areas of your life where you have little or no confidence. The thought of just being in those situations probably scares the 5hit out of you.

Well, it shouldn't. You are probably trying to be something immediately that you aren't and imagining failure, when failure is not really a bad outcome.

The bad outcome is that you never try, and never improve (or just keep putting it off).

All you need to do to get confidence is really believe a couple things, that really are true if you think about it.

1. you can learn new abilities with practice.
2. confidence is a thing that comes within you, and you have an ability to generate an unlimited amount of it.
3. some people will try to make you feel bad or set you back. Learn to ignore these people, and still be able to integrate positive criticism.

The next time you are in a situation where you lacking confidence, think to yourself "If I had an infinite amount of confidence, what would I do in this situation?"

Just asking that question, makes you realize that confidence is something you can control and gain.

take small steps. At first, maybe just start thinking about these things in your head, and imagining a realistic outcome.

For example, lets say you want to have more confidence with approaching hot babes.

First, you have to realize that many people have confidence issues with this situation, and that it is not an easy thing to overcome.
Just that fact that you are experiencing anxiety does not made you a dumb person or an inadequate person. It happens to almost everyone.

Whatever you are facing, make it as easy as possible, while still challenging yourself.

Back to the HB - just decide to go up to her and say "do you happen to know the time?" or "hey, that’s a cool hat/scarf/sweater - where did you get it? I need to get a present for my friend/sister." her - "blah blah blah", you - "okay thanks, have a great day!" (yes, these are kind of lame examples - but they will work okay)
Just plan on asking her that, do not plan on even asking for a number or trying to have a long conversation. Don't be afraid to make up questions or reasons to talk to people. It makes it so much easier if you realize that people do this a lot, so they can initiate conversation easier.

See the DJ Bible, it covers some of this stuff specifically related to talking to people. Go at you own pace; don't worry about where you need to be at.

Also, don't be afraid to really face this and talk to a therapist/counselor if you are having issues tackling this on your own.
Many smart, well rounded people do this. You may be able to understand at a deeper level what is going on, and you will face these obstacles and overcome them sooner rather than later.

and have some some fun goddammit!

I’m not the most confident guy on earth (if I was I wouldn’t have joined this website), but I am confident in areas of my life. The way you can improve confidence is by learning new things and improving your health.

For example:

-Learn an instrument that interests you. Become so good at it that you are better than everyone you know. (Best feeling ever)
-Are you into cars or motorcycles? Join a car or motorcycle club
-Start exercising: lift weights, swim
-Learn a new sport... get as good as you can
-Get good grades

etc. etc....

What is your level of porn use?

Believe it or not, it can affect your self-confidence.

Thanks for the replies. Goestoeleven, your response was very good. A big issue is that if I try something new or face a fear or whatever, I feel a dull, numb, neutral feeling. I don't feel good but I don't feel bad either. I know thats weird but that's the best way I can put it. I wasn't always like this but its been like it for a few years now.

I have been trying to quit actually so there isn't consistency going on. The past two months I have been trying really hard. If I don't watch any today (I don't plan on to) that will make it 8 days without watching. The most I have gone without watching it since I started in 9th grade was 2weeks. Soft in 9th then from 10th onward, the more hard stuff. Struggled since the beginning to quit but its hard. But how does porn bring your confidence down:confused:
