I have had the misfortune to sit at a lot of death beds. And it is always those watching that suffer more then those that are about to leave.

How to deal with it?
Accept it.

You were loved.

They were loved.

Don't get stuck in a moment, or define your life by the moment that someone passes.
A cliche- but try to celebrate their life and good memories. Don't disrespect it by wallowing in despair.
They are leaving... and their greatest and (usually) only fear is not being able to take care of you. They don't want to bring you pain. So try not to feel the need to hold onto the wrong things. Let them know they were loved and whatever else you need to say. This is the last chance you will get to do it.

My condolences.
