I have been overwieght practically my whole life, I would eat fast food all the timeand for a few years we lived at the top of this huge hill, and I was only 15 so I had no way to get anywhere, so I would just sit at home, eat, play video games, watch tv, eat, and sleep. all day every day for years. I would always eat at night no matter where I was.

Here is what I have been doing for the past month and a half that has gotten me from 240lbs to 215lbs and still going strong.

Jog/Run in the morning or at night. (mornings are preffered, you feel better throughout the day.) A little at first, more as you get accustomed to it.

Eat everything in sight for breakfast , as much as you can handle, doesnt have to be low fat, low carb, blah blah blah, you need energy throughout the day, and your body will burn it off throughout the day.

Drink water, always carry a bottle of water with you. even if you dont like it. (i used to not like it, but now I cant live without it)(duh). If you drink it throughout the day you will not be as hungry when it comes time to eat. When you do eat, just eat normally, dont starve yourself,(but dont pigout like you did for breakfast) I have been combining different diet's I would have a subway sandwich one day (footlong) maybe half now half later, then steak and eggs the next, keep it stimple simpy.

Dont cut anything out of your diet that you would normally eat except for fast food. It's so hard to not eat any carbohydrates.
Plus you need carbs, they give you energy.

Try not to eat anything after 7:00, if you get hungry after 7:00 then grab your water bottle and start drinking, it will get rid of enough of the hunger to , make you survive the night, (that is if you havent been starving your self all day.

Extras
Go to the gym once in awhile if you have a chance.

Dont run if you are sick

Dont make the Diet seem like a diet just eat pretty much what you feel like eating, in proportion, and then not so much at night.

Buy a case of water, 24 pack, and have it in your room, I find room temp water is better.

And an old chinese wieght loss tip is to drink hot water after a meal with fat in it, as it helps dillute the fat, much better than cold water, would, (ever try making chocolate milk in cold milk) it just doesnt dissolve quite as easliy. This is beleived because thier arent a whole lot of fat people in china, and they drink warm liquids with meals, like tea.

I dont know how true this is, but I have been doing it and it seems to be helping. Also I would imagine that it does a better job of cleaning out your system.

Hope this helps somebody, I know it is helping me tremendously.

Sounds good, and congratz on your progress. I've also been looking to drop a few pounds but I love to eat, and I can't imagine spending the rest of my life counting calories and living on tuna, oatmeal and protein shakes. It's good to hear that losing weight is possible with just a little common sense and without radical lifestyle changes. I feel inspired. :)

Good job! Your kind of diet is actually almost the same as the diet I suggest to people if they ask how to lose weight. Some of the biggest mistakes people make if they want to lose weight are not drinking enough water, starving themself, and eating too many carbs late at night. Keep it up!

Thank you I appreciate it,

Another thing that might help you stick to it, is to let yourself go once in awhile, you've been dying for a whopper all month, go get one, a couple of weeks later you need a slice of pizza
have ONE, (take a paper towel or napkin and soak up a lot of the grease on the top of the pizza, I hear this removes like %25 of the grease.) most things are ok in moderation.

It's a myth that you need carbs for energy - fat is a better source of energy than carbs.

BTW, I went from 245+ to 180 in 8.5 months doing low-carb.
Some of the other bonuses were that my energy levels immediatly improved on low-carbs (around 20 grams per day, mostly from fiberous veggies) and my sleep requirements went from about 8.5-9 hours per night to about 6.5-7 hours per night.

I'm currently maintaining my weight on about 50 carbs per day, mostly from fiberous veggies, with the occasional slice of pizza here and there.

I joined the gym back at the beginning of 2003 and back then I couldn't even do a pushup and couldn't do a pullup eather and I could only curl a total of 30 pounds with 10 reps and 3 sets and I also had a huge pot belly and the main thing I did was just cut back on the fast food mainly and I started walking through the day for exercise and also to be able to relax and not analyze everything in my life so much and I now feel 100x better, it's truely the best thing I've ever done in my life that I can think of. One of THE best things you can do is DO NOT eat pizza or fast food, that was the killer for me.

Now a little over a year later I have lost my pot belly but I still have that really thin layer of fat over my abs that I am trying to get rid of and I have only been lifting weights for about 5 months and it's been in these five months that I have got the more tight toned body look with some good lean muscle mass. Right now I really just want to lose the fat covering my abs but this seems to be ALOT harder than losing alot of fat.

One of my big weaknesses is that I never really feel hungry in the morning till lunch time and then from there I eat a ton of food throughout the day but I eat healthy. To lose weight doesn't mean go on a 100% lettuce diet like alot of people really think, I just eat alot of lean meats, protein shakes and sometimes I eat those Smart Ones "healthy" microwave meals that are easily made but most of them have like 20 grams of protein and are low in fat and it helps get me through the day and it's better than not eating at all. I also need to cut down on eating at night, thats bad too but I'm still thin.

Some of the biggest mistakes people make if they want to lose weight are not drinking enough water, starving themself, and eating too many carbs late at night
I read an article by some professional bodybuilder (who Ive read other articles before and really think he knows his stuff) and he said its been proven that it doesnt matter when you eat the calories you eat (concerning bodyfat levels). On the other hand Ralf Möller (yall know of him??) said he tried not to eat too mcuh at night to stay in shape...

Im wondering which one is true - anyone got some backup for one of them?

I'd say it's better to eat more calories during the day and less at night, because if you eat more during the day, they will be burned off while you are doing things, unlike consuming a lot at night and then lying down for 8 hrs
