Im looking at a job thats 1 x hr and 45 x minutes away. I love my house and dont want to move if i were to even get it

Whats the longest 5 x day a week work commute you ever did, and what were your reasons for not moving closer?

For my last year of college I stayed home. But it was a 1 hour commute by bus to get there, and 1 hour back.

Despite a flexible timetable, I bloody hated it. The energy it took out of me, before even starting the day, was not worth it. I felt exhausted by the time I got back home.

I did it so I didn't have to pay any living costs like rent/food, and I'd always have my family to support me. I guess it paid off in that regard.

Commuting that much would be a definite no for me. Consider waking up 6am everyday to commute 2 hours to get to work, and you'll be doing this for at least a year or however long you keep the job. Exhausting, not to mention 4 hours of your day is kind of wasted.

But perhaps if the job is worth it or you don't mind commuting then it won't matter.

This will be horrific. I would advise maybe getting a small apartment and trying to work 4 days/week for 10 hours or something.

I once had a 30 minute commute and it almost drove me crazy. I will say this - I have a 5 minute commute now and often times that's not enough time to totally unwind after the day.

I've known one guy who drove 2.5 hours for a construction job, I don't know how he did it. He was a rough fellow though, and he had a gimpy arm, so I imagine he was just happy to be working. Another guy I know drove 1:50 everyday for a state job and he wasn't very happy. Eventually quit.

Is this commute by car, where you have to self-operate the vehicle, or does it include public transportation?

Hr 45 of driving each way would drive me completely nuts and kill any time for anything.

Yep by car. About 30 minutes of rural and then an hour of city traffic. I added 15 minutes for misc like stopping for gas, extra traffic, etc. When my dad lived in Los Angeles he drove 80 miles to work everyday for 2 x years, one way. This is 91 miles one way.. I just don't know... Hard decision I will continue to think on, if I even get the job at all.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

Damn dude. Guess it really depends on your other goals and preferences outside of work.

Does the employer know you live so far away? If so, are they expecting you to move closer?

I used to travel into NYC every day. It was 90 minutes each way. It didn't bother me at that time because I was in my 20s and my workday was short. Travel time was included in my 8 hours.

I wouldn't be able to do that today, especially if travel time was in addition to my work time.

Try to imagine yourself doing this commute a year from now after the thrill is gone. Would it still be something you would want to do?

50 mile round trip 5xs a week, in Bay Area city traffic (ranked 11th worst in the country). 1 hour there and 1 to 1 1/2 hours back.
You must live in North Tampa. I lived by USF and worked on West Shore. That was about an hour. It killed me, but it was worth it to have my dream job. In the evenings, I used to make a big loop around the city to go home - Expressway to Brandon, then I-75 up to USF.

Before that job, I was a courier in Tampa, so all I did was drive. Fighting traffic was my job. If you want a shortcut, go through the ghetto, because the streets are on a grid and there is no traffic.

Time-wise my longest commute was 1 hr 5 minutes while living in NY and this was only to go 4 miles! It involved 2 city buses during rush or lunch hour (I either started at 9 or 12). Switching buses was often a 25 minute ordeal and you can imagine how fun that was in winter. At times I was using my dads car and then it was only 20 minutes.

But Tampa is not much better. For a city that barely cracks the top 50 in USA population, the traffic here is a disgrace. I had a short lived job here where the office was 12 miles from my apartment, and could take up to 55 minutes. Working the closing shift one time I left at 11 pm made it home in 19 minutes.

I think 1 hr 45 minutes per day is ghastly. Anything over 40 minutes is pretty brutal and <15-20 is ideal.

2 hrs here into NYC, it's sometimes annoying but then again I am taking a catamaran with a bar on it, so the way home is much better than the way here. Although saying that had a 2 hr commute into London, it's all about opportunity and effort, is the long term pay off worth it.

At this point you probably have a woman (or multiple women) chasing you around, calling you all the time, wanting to be with you. So let's talk about how to KEEP a woman interested in you once you have her. This is BIG! There is nothing worse than getting dumped by a woman that you really, really like.

i travelled over 300 miles a week for nearly 5 years , 2 hours travelling per day to the most boring job in the world to work with the strangest people on the planet ( i hated nearly all of them )

it broke me physically and mentally i was severely depressed in the last 2 years of it but somehow managed to drag myself through it and find a job only 20 mins from my house

i now save £40 a week in travelling and 40 mins per day and a lot happier

the only way i would ever consider that again was if the job paid extremely well or if i worked as my own boss

1 hr each way?

I'm committing 25 minutes each way right now and even that's a lot.

Right about average for the US tho. This drive has been 55 minutes with traffic. Utter brutality.
