Okay. This is so ****ed up I can't do anything but laugh.

So I bought my son a laptop on the 21st of July. I got tired of him using mine so I bought him just a little cheap Asus Laptop, 350 bucks.

So today, it just, in the middle of him using it, completely shuts down, cuts off. you can't get it on. I used to be a tech at best buy and i know if i open it, it's going to void the warranty.

So I'm like, okay I just bought it, , i'll take it back. lol they are lie welp you should have brought it in yesterday you are one day late lol. I'm lie dude you sold me a laptop that WON'T CUT ON. IT'S ALMOST lie they trolled me and set it to go off in 15 days lol.

I will not buy a stick of bubble gum from best buy ever again.

Same. Their business has been on the decline for years, being unable to compete with the likes of Amazon. In fact, I have not shopped at a Best Buy in years, I get all my tech and such from Amazon. Here in Canada, Best Buy is closing its stores one by one.

I happened to notice when searching through Google today that one result that came up was an item from Monoprice being sold by (drum roll) Best Buy. Seriously? That's the best you can do Best Buy? Sell your own competitors products? That's like purposely asking for sloppy seconds...or thirds.

I get my computer 5hit from independent computer stores as opposed to big box retail businesses. Better service, better stuff, better prices. If I need something small for electronics, I'll buy from China on ebay. I've bought computer cards for $4 including shipping as opposed to $50, and China gives better service than retailers. If by some chance the item doesn't work, it's like $4 worth of change fell out of the hole in my pocket.

To add inslut, i had to buy another one on newegg today, though i got him an HP this time and paid a litlte bit more for it. I mean, it's not like he threw the mother****er on the wall or spilled orange juice on it, he was just sitting there and it went out lol. i could understand teaching him a lesson if you break it, you don't get another one but he really did not brea it, it's just a POS lol. then i got to spend saturday morning installing all his little id applications again instead of having hangover sex with my wife lol

that is what is really pissing me off about the whole thing, i will have spent 3 days dealing with this instead of working. 1 day installing all his kid / disney applications and stuff, configuring it for him, another day taking it to best buy and getting trolled, and another day doing it all over again.

In that case, you must know all about their fantastic customer service policy.

I once bought a laptop from a best buy. The fvcking thing broke down on me 4 - yes 4 - goddamn motherfvcking times. Each time they fixed it, but each time they fixed it, it soon broke down again.

The fourth time, I took it back saying that as per their written policy, on the fourth attempt to fix a product they should replace it. At that point, the tech guy told me that that particular warranty did not apply since this fourth time was the fault of me, the customer. I was pretty p1ssed, and after arguing and haggling and threatening a lawsuit i was getting no where and left the store.

I sued the fvckers for like $5 grand, claiming all kinds of ridiculous costs and out of pocket expenses. (The computer originally cost like 800 bucks) Then I paid a local sheriff to deliver personal service on one of the store's managers. I took them to court, won my case, and two weeks later to my surprise I found a check for the full amount in my mail. I made quite a bit of money off that case, it was some pretty easy money :D

Funny enough, there's more to the story: months later, I ordered a burrito from a local place that delivered. Guess who shows up as the delivery boy but the same tech that I had been d1cked around by. He recognized me, and he told me he couldn't stand working there any more, and hated the fact that he had to screw over customers all the time the way he did.

I told him that there were no hard feelings as I made quite a bit of money off the case. But the aggravation of dealing with computers and electronics that don't work can drive a guy crazy that's for sure.
Damn

For small cheap crap under 10 bucks, I use ebay. Its usually Chinese made stuff like phone cases, styluses, usb cords, etc...but Ill buy from a USA seller. This way the shipping time is good and I can deal with a USA seller with good feedback ratings. Most of the time the USA sellers buy in bulk from China...which saves me the hassle of dealing with international shipping and distant customer service issues if something goes wrong.

This all said, I only use Chinese made stuff for small stuff that I dont care about breaking or getting ripped off on. Stuff like media cards as Desdinova mentioned, I only get from proven reputable sellers and brands. Because when it comes to stuff like memory cards and hard drives, its not uncommon for Chinese products to be incorrectly rated for their class or GB size. And its not uncommon for them to just stop working completely after a short while. I cant deal with that when it comes to my data...as I need reliability.

Anyways, moving on...for big stuff like TV's, laptops, computer parts and other more valuable electronics, I always buy only. Places like Newegg or Amazon are always cheaper. And sometimes Ill check out manufacturers outlet websites...like Dell Outlet or Lenovo Outlet. I actually helped my mom look for a laptop last summer on Lenovo Outlet. We paid less than 250 for it, and its worked great for a year. It was a refurbished model, but looked brand new...actually had the plastic still on it too. It came with a 90 warranty and an option for a year or two year extended warranty.

Also, I sometimes use slickdeals in order to see who has the best prices and deals out there, and I tend to always avoid bigbox stores because of their usually sh!tty prices and return/warranty policies. Newegg and Amazon have ALWAYS been great to me about returns or exchanges. I bought a 40inch tv in the winter that I wasnt happy with, and Newegg paid for return shipping and refunded all my money for the TV and extended warranty. You usually get at the least 30 days to return something if you dont buy an extended warranty. And then after that you deal with the manufacturer.

I usually do a little research on a manufacturer before buying a product, so I know it wont be a hassle if the product has a problem outside the retailer warranty but within the manufacturer warranty period. Ive heard good things and bad things about ASUS warranty service. But do contact them and see what they can do. They are one of the more reliable tech companies though, so you should be able to get the laptop fixed.

that is what i pisses me off. Me and Asus go back. When I had my computer company, we primarily used Asus motherboard, as well as Abit. I'm very very familiar with Asus and they put out a top class motherboard, so when I saw the laptop i thought well i'm paying less but i'm getting the bare bones, no extra crap installed from the computer company type stuff. But this laptop is the ****test laptop i've ever seen. the USB drive was going off and on from the first day I took it out the box.

http://www.419eater.com/html/joe_eboh.htm

Read the whole thing, it's several pages worth. Good if you're having a slow day at work. I love how all the email he sends to the scammer is maintaining form with the whole "Blessings to you on this glorious day in the name of our lord and savior Jesus Christ" stuff. And the pictures are great too.

Speaking of Best Buy, what do you guys think of those "special warranties" stores like that are always trying to push? I never buy them myself, but I would at least expect the thing to work when I get it home. A friend of mine said something like "Here's my warranty - if it doesn't work, I'm bringing it back".

if you're not a computer guy and you buy a higher end laptop / desktop i would recommend it.

I mean, your motherboard can just fry from a thunderstorm. your power supply can go out, doesnt' always mean it's defective.

TV's however lol.

As a former salesman I can tell you that 99% of the time those warranties are a waste of money and a means for companies to put free money in their pockets. The employees get a commission for each warranty they sell which makes them push them hard. The only time I would recommend an extended warranty is if you're purchasing a new computer.

Another scam that I've seen Best Buy do is place red and white "sale" stickers over items even though they're not really on sale. It's just a generic sign that says "sale" and there's no indication what the sale price is on the sticker. When you bring the item to the register it rings up the regular price:rolleyes: Nice bait and switch assh0les.

Just messing with you. I know it's frustrating.

Zekko, those warrantees are highly skewed in the house's favor, but there is a small percentage of people who do benefit by springing for it. For the majority it's just more money for the house and less money in your pocket.

I generally advise my clients against buying extended warrantees, except for those who don't do well with risk. If they need to be coddled and feel safe, then I advise the warranty. It all depends on personality and the individual's attitude toward risk. Regardless, the house profits just like in Vegas.

I think an extended warranty is ok on a big ticket item like a car (provided it is through the manufacturer not a private company).

But an extended warranty on an appliance or computer or something under a grand? I wouldn't bother. I've never purchased one at an electronics store. I agree with AS. It's strongly in the house's favor, not yours.
