squat controversy again ???

There are 4 different squats. Each squat is a bit different than the others.

Olympic High bar squat = ATG barbell back squat

Powerlifting Squat = Parallel, which actually means hips dip below knees, and your stand is WIDER. it is anatomically impossible to go ATG on a powerlifting squat if your doing them correctly.

parallel squatting is NOT bad for your knees if you have a wide stance and your feet are turned outwards, using your hamstrings as a brake and you have the bar across your upper back not on your traps. All efforts should be made to learn how to squat deep. Despite what anyone says I'm convinced that EVERYONE can squat deep if they just practiced.

Parallel squats have there purpose, developing Glutes, Hips and Hamstrings.

All other deep squats utilize quads and hips alot more effectively.

by the way, why is the word outwards, censored ?

and for the record Mark Rippetoe has nothing against deep squatting, he talks about it briefly in one of his crossfit videos about bench pressing.

I hold the bar on my upper back like a powerlifter but I squat all the way down like an Olympic lifter

i would call those lifters squatting low, but not a2g. and he didn't write it in SS, he wrote it in a post. do your knees stop sliding forward 1/3 way down? you'll know what i mean if you read SS.

drumbass actually knows what he's talking about lol. parallel isn't parallel, it's hips lower than knee.
olympic style is high on traps and i think toes forward in a close stance.

i also agree with everyone can squat deep. for some, they just say that because it's not a priority for them, which is completely fine.

i cannot think about a situation of how a deep squat uses the quads more effectively. quads are used but certainly to a much lesser extent than the posterior chain

A2g was never meant literally. As low as you can go at whatever feet width you use. It's just generally doing the lift in the full range of motion like most every other lift.

And of course like other lifts, sometimes it is smart to train 'parts' of the lifts in order to strengthen the weak points of the full lifts. Like different height boxes for box squats, 2-3-4-etc board presses with bench press, and rack deadlifts.

mark rippetoe says if you are truly doing ass to grass for real, you are splitting your knees apart :)
Sure it is.

And loading the bar with 1200lbs and doing 1 inch squats is a great idea.

Do not be too easy. If you are too easy to get, she will not want you. If you are too easy to keep, she will lose interest in you. If you are too easy to control, she will not respect you.

what gave you that idea? i think you misinterpret what i wrote. if you think you have the credibility and background to argue against rippetoe, you truly are a master of the barbell.
