squat controversy again ???
There are 4 different squats. Each squat is a bit different than the others.
Olympic High bar squat = ATG barbell back squat
Powerlifting Squat = Parallel, which actually means hips dip below knees, and your stand is WIDER. it is anatomically impossible to go ATG on a powerlifting squat if your doing them correctly.
parallel squatting is NOT bad for your knees if you have a wide stance and your feet are turned outwards, using your hamstrings as a brake and you have the bar across your upper back not on your traps. All efforts should be made to learn how to squat deep. Despite what anyone says I'm convinced that EVERYONE can squat deep if they just practiced.
Parallel squats have there purpose, developing Glutes, Hips and Hamstrings.
All other deep squats utilize quads and hips alot more effectively.
by the way, why is the word outwards, censored ?
and for the record Mark Rippetoe has nothing against deep squatting, he talks about it briefly in one of his crossfit videos about bench pressing.
