Ok. I've been really wondering what's ok for me to eat late at night and what is not. I mean, maybe, ideas for my 6th (final) meal? Or what if I just a little before (or right before) I decide to head to bed I get hungry. Any guidelines? Would some fruit or almonds be ok?

Ok, great, cause I'm about to go and I'm planning to grab some almonds lol, I'm really gonna try and be strict about my eating now. I want results ASAP (I know that's not something to say which is why I gotta do everything as best as possible).

I usually have something which only contains proteins and little to no carbs, so I go for either nuts, cheese or tuna.

Someone suggested veggies and fruits, but would that work for cutting? Aren't they, expecially fruits, high in carbs?

Just interested in knowing, a lot of you say nuts. What kind of nuts specifically?

I switched over from cashews to roasted peanuts as a snacker (very low in carbs and I comsume 100 or so calories per 2 hours) but started to break out in pimples. WTF?!? I only drink water or that Arizona Tea brand when I'm feeling like some flavour.

I think I'll go cashews again but I don't like the higher carbs. So yeah, which nut do you like to nibble on? :D

You guys think a mix of 23g whey protein + 2 tablespoons of whole fat milk powder is a good idea to go to sleep with? I'm currently trying to gain muscle while watching my weight, and been recently gaining some weight as I can see my love handles growing. I'm not sure if it's due to the amount of food intake I increased during the day, or that drink I have at night before I go to sleep.

The reason why I drink the protein mix before bed is that I usually work out before I go back home to sleep, and I need a post-after work out drink. No 1-2% fat milk is available since where I live you can only get milk powder.

Will that shake make that much of a difference on my weight?

Arh.. I know the ones. Not too much treatment on those. Not too brown.

I reckon the pimple outbreak could be from the 'roasted' treatment. These are Planters Dry Roasted Peanuts. It's not easy on the throat and might cause other reactions. I'll try the unsalted peanuts and if problems persist, almonds or cashews.

Stick to a blend of protein and fats...

- nuts
- chicken
- tuna
- olive oil
- cheese(cottage)

I never eat veggies before bed, they leave me feeling unsatisfied, and most taaste like crap.

A bedtime snack i make frequently is:

1 can of tuna
~15 - 20 slices of Hot Peppers for flavour( plain tuna gets boring after several months)
1/3 cup of almonds
1/3 cup of grated cheese
mug of green tea - this isn't for everybody, it could keep you awake at night from the caffeine

mix all that in with the tuna, and it's to die for.

My fav is peanut butter and celery. Awesome snack. Just make sure to get all-natural peanut butter, not the skippy crap. Ingredients should be peanuts and salt, that's it.

Fruits are carbs, regardless. And you can't burn off carbs when you are sleeping on a bed. And with enough time, carbs turn into fat.

It's a pretty bad idea to eat right before you sleep.

It's still a bad idea EVEN IF you are trying to bulk. Your body can't burn any of that when you are just breathing on a bed.
Hm, ok so no carbs before bedtime... how about just a scoop of whey protein mixed in with water? Protein is fine right?

Protein.

No carbs except green veg.

Some fat is okay but keep it reasonable if body fat matters to you. I do 6 meals a day and the 5th meal only has a little fat where earlier meals in the day might have 20-30+g. I'm mostly sitting on my butt 2-3 hours before bed winding down so i don't have huge energy needs then.

Sometimes food before bed bothers people but not most.

I take half scoop whey, 1 scoop caseine, half scoop egg powder as my final meal. ~50g protein.

http://www.johnberardi.com/articles/nutrition/bedtime.htm

Read that info so you can digest (pun intended) what happens when you REALLY sleep.

KillaPetehog, you are only partially right. Carbs you probably dont need many, but a few wont kill you. On the otherside, if you are saying NOTHING really happens when you sleep, you aren't even in the ballpark, and LOTS happens when you sleep. Just read the article above.

And even if you dont understand the article, all you have to say is... 6-8hrs of sleep HAS to do something and that it does.

Truth be told, for people that bulk or try to stay in an Anabolic and not Catabolic state, THIS is where they fail, and it is the night time part of it. They think... Ok, last meal at 9pm, go to bed at 10pm and wake up at 6am. So right there is 9hrs total of fasting from food.

Most dont know it, like I stated, but MUCH goes on when you are asleep. Quite honestly I think this area in research is huge, and what we all can do to help with this 8hrs of sleep for those of us who kill our selves in the gym. A start is like the article suggests.

I personally have a 5 blend protein that I use just for bed for the most part. I get everything I need, and carbs are low. The digestion rates are all different, as well as the Amino Acid profile for each protein.

Hope the article helps Zerix

Thanks Omen. It did help. I was also wondering why he didn't just mention milk until he got to that part haha.
