I have just started proper weight training(e.g sets/reps) doing worthwhile exercises (e.g squats). I train three times a week, monday, wednesday and friday.

I trained for the first time ever on monday and i really enjoyed it. I was expecting some small aches the next day - and i had them.

Then, i wake up this morning to a aching pain in my left arm which is so painful i can't move it all the way out!

I'm not training today to make sure i don't inflame the ache any more.

Is there anything that could explain this? Will it go away?

Thanks,

Donny

Thats why you train each body part 1x per week and give it the proper time to heal and rebuild

If you didn't feel any immediate pain after your workout, then I think it's safe to assume that you didn't seriously injure yourself, and that your pain is simply a byproduct of your very first workout. Give it a few days and see if the pain goes away -- if not, see your doctor.

You are just sore from your workout....and since this is your first workout ever...then you should be really sore...work out every bodypart once a week....and make sure to warm up and stretch before hitting the weights....

I just started working out this summer, too, and I had the exact same thing. The first time I did biceps/triceps training (mind you, this was in a course, so I'm sure I did nothing wrong), I couldn't extend my left arm the next day due to some quite intense pain on the inner side of the ellbow. The right arm followed the day after...
Apparently it was just sore, as it went away and never came back. Your muscles aren't used to this kind of stress at the beginning.

So, I know how you feel, and it is kinda scary, but don't worry, it'll pass. :)

happened to me when I started too. I didn't stretch enough n I overworked my body. On your first times (first 2 months or so) u should be do'N full body work out 10-15 reps no more then 2 exercise per muscle group so u can build a base.

I worked my bicep too much, I couldn't extend it more then 45 degree angle. I'm serious. It lasted over a week.

Oh and I betcha are not a lefty huh?

Remember to stretch after each sets. Hold the stretch for at least 10s or it's pointless.

You're muscle are 'virgin' - they are not used to take'N it so that is why u get really sore the first times u work out. If u go all out too much - they can't take it.

If you want to keep this type of thing from happening, make CERTAIN to stretch after you lift. I have yet to get this type of pain, no matter how hard or often I lift, because I stretch and stretch after workouts.

This, of course, is only if you'd like to not have this sort of pain. Maybe you're a masochist and you're in to it? who knows...?

I'm not a masochist - but I actually miss that type of pain. I always believed that if u come out from a work out sore, the more u are sore the better your work out was. now I barely feel anything anymore.

The pain has gone now, i just need to remember to warm up/down properly before and after workouts.

It bloomin' hurt at the time though - a valuable aid for anyone else just starting.

Some vitamin C should aid your recovery (just wait until you do a serious leg workout for the first time)
