I did it, my first attempt and it was successful. I was eating in denny's with my cousin and we were talking to the waitress a lot, HB7, about 18 or 19, and I thought I would just gather up my nuts and do it. Keep in mind i'm 16 too. lol. We were chatting and kind of giving her a hard time about our drinks being empty for a while and talking about random BS, we got the check, and she walks away with my cousins debit card to pay and i say "Hey hold on!" she turns around and looks "You forgot something" I said. She walks over and asks what thinking I was just gonna give her a hard time and I said "Your number in my phone" with a smile and held my phone out, i wasnt thinking i was gonna get it, she says something about her phone being turned off or is gonna get turned off but will be turned on again in a week or something, I didnt fully understand but i said thats ok and she gives me her number and walks away. I thought she meant it was already turned off so I called it and I hear her phone ringing in the kitchen. LOL, she answered and we talked for about 10 seconds and I said ok bye bye and as we were walking out she happily said "have a good night!"

There are a few instances where calling the same would be OK, like when I recently overgamed a girl who gave me extreme IOIs recently. I had to call her so that I could demonstrate enough interest in her that she wouldnt feel like I was out of her league.
One minute is just kinda cheesy though. You didn't have enough IOIs or a plan for the call to make this a good move.

Hey congrats on the number. Now wait until alteast Wedsday though I personally would wait until Thursday to call her. And when you do call her call around 9:30 to 10:00 p.m. The reason for this being that most woman don't really go out during the week so it will be easier to get a hold of her. Plus if it's later at night you'll be the last thing she thinks about before she goes to bed. ALWAYS a good thing. 
Also I would say that personally the first call shouldn't be longer than 10-15 minutes. Just try to make a date to go out. Don't ask her just assume that you are going to go out on a date. Say something like "Hey lets go out to lunch together what days are you free?" See I didn't ASK her if she wanted to have lunch with me I very politely told her that she was coming then I asked her what days she has off. Good luck! And remember to have fun!

I just called to check if it was turned off or not and it was hilarious when I heard her phone ringing in the kitchen. she answered it laughing and i said "well its not turned off!" the girl was good looking and cute but not much of my type so I don't even know if i'm gonna call her. lol

It can be a little bit ****y and charming to call or sms the same minute and write something funny. I got a number from a girl on a bus once, and the very minute she left I wrote something like "Hi, do you remember me? I don't know if im too forward now, but i just had to write you something!!!"
If the girl is really, really, stupid she'll look at you like you're desperate - But if she's THAT stupid there's nothing to gain at all anyways.

Personally, I think there is nothing wrong with calling it to make sure she wasn't on some b.s.

Once a girl gave me her phone number.
I called her about a minute later because I was looking at my outgoing phone numbers and trying to figure out who I called (I was a bit drunk, I didn't put 2 and 2 together). She answered, and she was like "you forgot me already?" and I told her "I don't remember people when I'm drunk. Next time I see you we'll just have to meet all over again." I saw her about 5 minutes later, and she runs up and says "Hi, I'm Rose and I'm awesome - so don't forget me this time!"
Well, the next day she called me and invited me to go hot tubbing at her place with her and her roommates. By 10 that night I was sitting naked in a hot tub with 3 girls I'd never met and the girl I called a minute later. They turned out to be nutcases, and I never called her back, but I had fun.
If you're funny enough about it, you can get away with anything.
