Well it's the summer and I really need to lose some bodyfat! Currenty it's around 16%. I just bought a jump rope, because accordin to t-nation 10 min of jump rope was the same as a 6 mile run. So I thought why would you spend 25 min running when you could do the same workout in 10 min! I also read that running was bad for the joints. I still got a few quetions...

1. How long should I jump rope? 5 min? 10 min? How many times?
2. What time should I do it? Should I do it in the morning? Everyday?
3. Is jump rope actually a good cardio? Can jump rope alone get you into good shape (less than 8% bodyfat)?

dude 30 minutes a day probably in the afternoon around 4-5ish. like constantly for 30minutes. if u tangle it, start again over and over for 30min it's really good for loss in general.

30 minutes non stop? That would probably be impossible for someone who's just starting...

Why 30 min reasons please! How should I increase it? Every week or everyday? By 5 min or 10 min? What's too much? I don' want to slim so much and look like a cross country runner. Is it possible to look like a sprinter using jump rope?

well i believe it takes around 20 minutes for fat to actually start burning then you have 10 minutes of the fat burning then the after effects which will probably go for awhile.

and 30minutes isn't as hard as you think, jump rope is like one of those skills which improve very quickly but if you are quite large and i mean this in a non-offense way you might have a little trouble but that doesnt mean you cant do 30minutes. i mean even if u have to take a breather and go again if you want results you're going to have to stick to whats best.

number of times would probably be best at least 6 times a week 4-5ish (pm) and no you're not going to slim down like a country cross runner. i mean if weight was that easy to lose~ sheesh.

edit: however this depends on what your goal is. i mean if you want to bulk and get big then jump rope is probably not a good idea. cause i think warboss said it was classed as like high intensity or something. but it is very good cardio and will get you results in fat loss. much like jogging. etc.

Strech, take a bath not shower (better for joints and blood circulation) and do it on a soft surface. (NO CONCRETE)

+1 on using a soft surface.

Whenever I run on concrete or skip rope on a hard floor it KILLS my shins, to the point where they swell up and hurt for days, so I started running on grass and skipping rope in a boxing ring instead and that fixed it immediately. A soft surface is much more forgiving.

So can anyone tell me how many reps I should do in 20 min? 30 min? I need to know, so I can figure out the rep pace. 100 rep every 2 min is good? Too fast? Too slow?

dude...just jump until you can keep it moving constantly without it lagging. by lagging i mean you know when you see kids jump and they do this huge jump over the rope then let is sag for a bit? non of this. jump low and keep it moving in a constant motion. do that for 30minutes.

im not too sure about this but jump rope...keep it moving and keep the heart pumping. don't bother trying to count it. i mean if you really wanted to you could could how many you do in 30minutes and try and improve your speed overall but dont bother trying to keep reps.

btw. i have that shin problem and it hurts like hell but i have no real flat grassy or soily surfaces nearby. any extra suggestions apart from thick shoes? which also make it alot harder to jump in..

edit: hey dream just read your blog. it was a good read. do you think you could tell me when you update with the whole glycogen stuff?

hey some quick info i just googled. 120 reps per minute for a 150 lb person burns 12 calories a minute. the bigger you are, the more you burn.

but seriously you aint gonna be doing 120 reps per minute when you've just started.
start slow at around 60-70 reps per minute.

edit: anyone want to correct me on this? i've always jumped rope by landing on my toes aparently this is bad and i should be landing with my knees bent and landing on the whole of my foot? like wtf?! if you jump then land flat on your foot wouldn't you like destroy your knees?

My anaerobic vs aerobic exercise post is almost done, expect it up sometime tomorrow.

I will also try to post some more specific tips on jump roping in this thread at the time of posting it tomorrow.

Guess I'll suck it up and do 3200. So how often should I do it? Everyday or not?
