I've been using ON whey after almost every strength workout for the last year and a half. However, I am about to run out, I have just a few scoops left, and I've decided not to order any more after this because it's expensive. Also, it tastes like **** unless you mix it with milk, and I've decided to stop drinking milk after reading one of Ross Enamait's books.

I'm still going to take fish oil, 15 grams a day.

Anyone else decide to stop using whey?

I was wondering something and was gonna make a thread but I will put it here if thats ok.

I was looking at this "Mioplex," stuff that you drink right after you work out and it will replenish your muscles, now is this stuff better to take or is it the same thign as taking WHey? I feel like it does the same thing just a different name but if anyone feels like it will be better to take then I'm all ears...right now I am taking 100% Whey protein.

So what is it about milk that Ross didnt like? And is whey that expensive where you live? According to my calculations the cheapes whey is about as expensive as getting the same amount of protein from meat or cheese. Or 50% more expensive, but thats not a bad deal considering the quality of whey protein as compared to other foods.

The cows are raised in filthy conditions, fed unnatural diets, and shot full of hormones, steroids, antibiotics, etc. that gets passed on to the milk. The homogenization process causes the fat molecules in the milk to form in a certain way that has been linked to heart disease. The pastuerization process destroys much of the nutrition.

I would drink raw milk but you have to jump through so many hoops to get it here that it's just not worth the hassle.

But apparently sour milk and yoghurt contain bacteria(sometimes extra bacteria in addition to the natural ones that make the products sour) that is good for digestion and all that.

I add Crystal Light (sugarless juice crystals) to the shake and water, it makes the taste bearable.

Some people say their shakes taste great though, mine definitely doesn't but it doesn't make me want to puke either, like it used to when I just mixed with water.

um, yeah, you might want to continue taking whey.. I've used ON for about 2 years now, and if you go with Banana Creme or Strawberry or the Chocolate Mint its definitely tolerable and the Banana is good.

Whey is awesome because it is cheap and a great protein.. I'd rethink your decision, but its all relevant to your training and goals..

Myoplex is supposedly high quality and all that but I can't afford upwards of $50-65 for a 5lb jug, when I can use Optimum Nutrition which is $38 for 5lbs..

Kerpal, not every cow is raised in those conditions, infact most aren't. There's legislation against stuff like that. Also, the cows being on steroids... isn't it a bit of a bonus?

I've stopped using whey for now... but it's because I've got 4 weeks to lose fat before I go on holiday. So not drinking much (if any) milk (for fat loss reasons) and not getting the extra calories from whey.

I've tried all 3 of those flavors, the Chocolate Mint is great but I thought the Banana and Strawberry were nasty. My goal is to achieve an excellent power-to-weight ratio, ie 3x bodyweight deadlift. I don't really care what I look like.

Well as for the laws, I doubt they are very strict or well enforced and there are tons of loopholes anyway.

As for the steroids and hormones they pump the cows full of, I don't think it's a good idea unless you want to look like this guy's "before" pictures: http://www.cosmetic-md.com/img/sections/gynecomastia-adults.jpg

I look a lot like that now and it blows.

No, I have Gynecomastia but as far as I know it has nothing to do with milk. I'm just saying that consuming large amounts of steroids and hormones, etc could have that side effect.

Have you consulted a nutritionist or a doctor about this?

If not, then I wouldn't rely on an un-expert like Ross when it comes to information like these. But then again, you are not me, and I am not you. Just an FYI.

It's common knowledge that a side effect of steroid use is Gynecomastia.

How is whey protein more expensive then getting your protein from meat or eggs? If I had the money to get my protein from food I would but it is impossible.

Who cares if it tastes like cr@p? That's like saying "I don't like squatting because I hurts my legs".

That's true too... that's why I only leg press.

:p

I don't care about getting big like most of the guys here so I'm not taking in 2 gr/lb of bodyweight. So I'm not spending tons of money on food.

By that argument Kerpal, surely you shouldn't be eating meat?

...

I'm talking about the fact you aren't drinking milk because of the cows that produce it. The same cows which you presumably eat, and are injected with the same stuff/kept in the same conditions as the other animals you presumably eat.
