Indifference is a powerful tool to have in your artillery and is helpful in all manner of things not just women.

The ability to brush external incidents off like water off a ducks back will enable you to keep a sharp, focused inner centrality but this is easier said than done.

I find when something on the 'outside' is affecting me, I first feel it usually in my gut. Rejection, insults, impatience etc...are all occurrences likely to set your emotions in a whirl.

When this happens I become aware that these are just chemical reactions inside my body in preparation for an imagined attack and tell myself:

It Don't Matter...

ultimately nothing matters because in the grand scheme of things nothing does.

It don't matter if she don't want you, if you lost your job, if you got bills to pay, if you went to jail, if you lost your home, your friends, your family, your life. It just don't matter. It will feel like it does but that is just all it is. A feeling. NOthing matters.

And once you ask this question notice how those feelings of despair or whathaveyou suddenly seem to disappear.

and if you can realise that, then that is the first step in actually doing something useful in your life. knowing yourself.

sort of like the buddhist philosophies that say the only thing that matters is right now, not 2 seconds ago or 2 seconds into the future, only right now.

and if you really practiced that, then there is never any problems in life, only situations that you shouldnt ever resist.

yeah, its all very zen like.

The problem with this line of reasoning is if nothing bad happens then nothing good happens either. It's a stoic existance. A monk is not exactly te model of happiness, success, wealth and attracting women. The truth is there is highs and lows, good things and bad things happening.

Well, I'm not advocating living life as a monk.

But it's handy to know if you feel you're being overcome by your emotions.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

I believe Sylvester's point is that you don't base your actions or reactions upon emotions or "feelings."
