Well there went about umpteen bazillion tax dollars in weapons, vehicles, and helicopters, all of which ISIS now controls and will use against any opponents. They have American-bought uniforms, helmets, and other gear as well. That's US tax dollars at work - buying weapons that end up in the hands of people who want to kill us.
Iraq needs to split three ways - Shia, Sunni, and Kurd. They can each have their own country that ends in stan. Oil companies don't care who controls the territory, just that they sell the oil. ISIS will still sell oil to the Chinese, so even the oil in the most radical muslim territory still goes on the world market. A generation or two from now, kids might read about the "Iraq War" and wonder where it was, because there is no longer such a place.
