Ok, I'm about to start bulking. I'm between 200-215 lbs. I was told on a bodybuilding forum that I should bulk. check out the pics of my torso/arms.

I don't have access to a gym so should I save up for dumbells?

Are the workouts that don't require any equipment good enough to get the job done?

In the bulking thread, it says no cardio. At my current size, does that still apply?

What do I need to buy? Whey protein, vitamins, what else?

I'd start running asap, and strip that fat back.

As a beginning lifter, the first piece of advice I have for you is to remove the phrases 'bulk' and 'cut' from your vocabulary.

It's PERFECTLY possible to lose fat and build muscle at the same time, despite popular opinion, so put yourself in some sort of sensible eating/cardio/lifting regime which allows you to cut back on fat and put on lean muscle at a reasonable pace, without periods of heavy dieting/gaining. Your body will thank you for it, and it's much easier to stick to a routine like this than do the old burgers/icecream/heavy cream bulk and egg whites/tuna/catabolism cut cycles.

Yes, save up for a good set of weights. Dumbbells, barbells, a rack and an adjustable bench at the very least. Bodyweight exercises and cardio can get you ripped but don't expect to hold much muscle at all unless you're giving a body a reason to keep it (heavy lifting). And you won't keep getting bigger unless you keep lifting heavier weights - simply put.

In the bulking thread, it says no cardio. At my current size, does that still apply?
EVERYONE should do cardio, regardless of goals. It improves your appetite, cuts fat and improves cardiovascular health. Maybe a skinny ectomorph could get away with 1-2 sessions a week but I'd advise you to do daily cardio (low intensity on an empty stomach).

The 'no cardio while bulking' issue is another reason why the bulk will get you fat. It's just asking for trouble, and if anyone thinks light cardio will hinder your gains then they really need to think again.

What do I need to buy? Whey protein, vitamins, what else?
In this order:
Multivitamin (a good brand), EFAs (fish oil - take a high dose), whey protein, green tea extract (good for cutting fat, plus an excellent antioxidant) - these are the minimum, after that you can consider stuff like extra vitamin c, calcium (assuming you're avoiding dairy) and possibly creatine or taurine.

At your weight, I think I'd cut first then bulk. I'm not really an experienced body builder though.

You're profile says you're 18, so you may still be in high school. If you are, you're school should have a gym or weight room you can lift in during lunch or after school.

Not necessary. Get bigger up and lose the fat gradually over time. Perfectly possible, no muscle-building time wasted, no egg-whites-and-tuna diets. Takes longer but is much more maintainable.

graduated already. I'm in an art college, no gym :(. I've decided that today will be my first day of my 8wks.

I'm going to be eating bananas, spinach, chicken, oatmeal, brown rice w/peas, along with slim fast shakes/protein bars. I haven't developed a chart as to what I will be eating and at what time yet.

Since I have no gym equipment, for the mean time I'm going to do push ups, sit ups, leg raises, full body crunches, squats, jogging, and toe touches. I'll split them up into a certain set every day or every other day of the week and do as many reps as I can.

Well this is how today went so far.

Woke Up- Ate 2 bananas and half a bowl of spinach.

about 3 hours later - Ate a bowl of oatmeal.

about 3 hours later - Ate a slim fast protein bar, a chicken filet, and took a multivitamin.

about 3 hours later - Ate a bowl of orange chicken (homemade) with brown rice and peas.

about 1 hour later right after I finished jogging - Drank a slim fast protein shake.

I jogged for about 10-15 minutes. sprinted for about 5 minutes. While jogging I stopped 3 times and did 10 push ups each time.

I also drank about 3-4 bottles of water.

How does that look?
